Environmental Crisis?
Are we really headed for environmental apocalypse in the near future? Michael Crichton, famed author of many a best-selling techno-thriller, is not persuaded by the evidence often touted by those in the environmental movement. In fact, he offers well-researched and politically impartial scientific evidence to the contrary in his book State of Fear, which has earned him labels as a paid oil company employee and Republican propagandist, while at the same time garnered him speaking engagements at the White House for the National Press Club. The problem is that the debate over the environment is now highly politicized along clear party lines, and is no longer based off of sound science. And, it’s further complicated by the unwillingness to realistically look at the often risky and speculative nature of predicting the future.
Michael Crichton
After graduating from the Harvard Medical School, Michael Crichton embarked on a career as a writer and filmmaker. Called "the father of the techno-thriller," his novels include The Andromeda Strain, Congo, Jurassic Park, Timeline, Prey, and State of Fear. He has also written four books of non-fiction, including Five Patients, Travels, and Jasper Johns. He is also the creator of the television series ER. He is the only person to have had, at the same time, the number one book, the number one movie, and the number one TV show in the United States.
