When Life Hangs in the Balance

“I did live. I survived and I lived to tell the tale,” exclaims Joe Perez, author of Soulfully Gay. Joe’s story is remarkable, and as he states, an enormous gift to have lived, and to be able to share with the reader and listener. As if news from doctors about impending death wasn’t enough, there were many more brushes with the edge. Perhaps the greatest lesson to be learned from Joe’s experience is that there is no time for us to procrastinate—by facing death, Joe realized the responsibility of life. We are blessed with this precious human birth in all of its ugly trials and amazing triumphs and each little (and sometimes not so little) nuance is a jewel for us to experience and to share with others.
