The Emergence of Psychoanalysis

Though Psychoanalysis is an accepted practice in our society today, it’s actually a fairly new endeavor, historically speaking. It appears that this field of study was an evolutionary emergent born during the Industrial Revolution, at a time when many were “losing their religion” or, struggling to integrate new scientific understanding with their religious beliefs. In this conversation, Joe Perez, author of Soulfully Gay, and Ken Wilber discuss the rise of Psychoanalysis out of the ashes of irreconcilable religious symbolism; how a life without God spurred on a new search for new meaning; and left those that pioneered this field looking inward.
