The Future of Technology

Ken offers his own thoughts as to the future of technological development in the 21st-century.  He prefaces the discussion by emphasizing the fact that, when trying to anticipate future scenarios, it's important to remember that emergence itself is unpredictable—meaning that, by definition, if it is really a genuine case of emergence, no one is able to see it coming.  We can, however, make certain predictions based upon current technological trends and the cutting edge of scientific discovery, which leads Ken to believe that the two biggest breakthrough technologies in the decades to come will involve subtle-energy research (the ability to observe, modify, and regulate energies far less dense than the physical material energies) as well as mind/machine interfaces that begin to transmit information in real time at the speed of thought, possibly culminating in virtual worlds that are experienced in our own minds, behind our own eyes, rather than beamed into our retinas from a computer display.
