How to Receive Heart-Transmission Through Gazing

Linda and Saniel Bonder lead us through a short introduction to gazing meditation, a wonderful 2nd-person practice specifically designed to open our hearts to Spirit, to each other, and to ourselves.

Note from Saniel

Corey deVos (writer, content producer, and webmaster of Integral Life) has invited us to post some teachings, "pointing out instructions," or other comments that may be of help to any of our Integral friends who hear the Integral Life audio conversation Ken Wilber had with us that introduces our offering we call HEARTgazing™. We’ve decided to present you with edited materials that we post as part of our full free online course on HEARTgazing, called “Transmission of the HEART.”

These are brief guided meditations that are part of each of the four sessions of that course. You can get the full audio recordings of the course as well as complete transcripts at http://heartgazing.com/integral.

We’re presenting the first guided meditation this week, and soon will offer the other three. This first one is presented by Linda, with closing comments from Saniel, and it’s titled:

  • How to Receive Heart-Transmission Through Gazing

The second and third meditations will also be presented by Linda, and the fourth by Saniel:

  • Six-Step Recognition Yoga™
  • Active Conscious Dreaming™
  • The Falcon’s Glance Meditation for Awakening Consciousness

As presented here and in our online course, these guided meditations are each quite brief, 6-8 minutes, so you can do them easily at random times as well as in association with other practices. You can find links to purchase 30-45 minute versions of these guided meditations at http://heartgazing.com/integral.

And, we heartily welcome you to take the full audio course “Transmission of the HEART.” These guided meditations will be more effective if you understand the particular orientation to “healing the Spirit/Matter split” and integrating all aspects of life that we transmit and teach. ~ Linda & Saniel Bonder

How to Receive Heart-Transmission Through Gazing

A Short Guided Meditation, led by Linda Groves-Bonder

To begin the HEARTgazing process, we invite people to just get very comfortable. Settle into your chair or, if you like, you can even lie down.

It’s important to have access to a photo or, when available, a video presentation of one or both of us gazing directly into the camera and through that making eye contact with you. Let’s just assume that you have photos of Saniel and me, either together or an individual photo of one of us.

And so as you sit comfortably and settle into your chair or however you’re seated, just take some deep breaths and focus on your body.

Allow yourself to relax and breathe and to feel the body. Embrace the body, this precious organism that you move in the world in.

You may want to even contemplate something that you’re needing in your life or desiring, a place where you want to become more active or more aware, more present. And be with that and feel that in your body and breathe.

Feel the flow of the breath moving through your body and all the way down to the toes and up to the top of the head as you breathe.

And when you’re ready, having access to the photos, or you might even be seeing the images of us on your computer screen, allow yourself to relax and connect with one of us visually, eye to eye, and just hold the space for us to meet.

We’re not trying or intending to manipulate or to change you in any way. We’re really just being with you. We’re meeting you on a deep heart level, in a loving support that, we hope, will nurture you. Hopefully, that nurturance will allow you to drop deeper into feeling you and being you and embracing all of who you are, because that is so precious.

So you can hold the gaze with the photo, breathing, blinking.

You don’t need to have a specific pose or stance as you gaze. Just be natural. Feel the organic nature flow through your body as you gaze with us and as we gaze back at you through the photo image.

And allow yourself to just hold the possibility open that what your needs and desires are in this moment are really important and that they do matter. They matter because they matter to you. We hold the intention and loving support and energy for your needs and desires to be manifested in their most auspicious timing for you, as you.

So as you gaze with one photo you can shift back over to the other photo and just allow yourself to feel and to breathe and to just be.

Allow yourself to relax.

This can go on just for a few seconds or a minute or two, or as long as you like. It’s really up to you.

-----

This is an abbreviated version of the gazing transmission through meditation that we practice with people. We offer a much longer version of this. Here, we’re offering it in a short format.

This is a resource you can tap into anytime you need to or want to. A client recently spoke to me in a private session about how happy he feels each morning when he gets up. He expressed how he looks forward to doing the gazing process because it enlivens him and prepares him to move more fully and confidently through the day.

And we hold that same intention and possibility for you and with you. So be it.

Additional Commentary by Saniel Bonder

I’ll add a couple of points here in terms of the inner practice, you could say, of being together with us in this encounter of HEARTgazing.

You don’t need to try to have your mind be completely calm. Thoughts can come and go. Really, there’s no need to worry about them.

Likewise, emotions. You may have all kinds of feelings come up or not. You may not feel anything. You may feel a strong presence and energy, gazing with one or the other of our photographs, or with us both through our photographs or on video. Or you may not.

Your body may feel agitated and jumpy or completely restful. On some level, it doesn’t really make any difference. The fact of having this simple encounter, this simple meeting, heart to heart, being to being, even through a photograph or streaming video, however it’s available to you, that’s sufficient.

Then later, also, you may find that during the day you remember us and plug back in, attune again. That’s something that you can do.

Again, it’s a resource. We are spiritual friends to you in this fashion. We’re teachers who are serving and making this offering to you.

So that’s how HEARTgazing can work for you. It’s something that we have distilled and brought forward from a long, long line of people, teachers, adepts who have done this for many, many generations and we’re now bringing it into the world today in this particular way. Others are doing similar things.

That simple guided meditation should give you a feeling for how HEARTgazing works.

One other thing I want to add here is you may actually find that that process does stimulate things in you, brings up deep feelings and so forth. So we urge people to moderate your dosage.

You don’t need a lot of this for it to just begin being there, again, nurturing you, providing a resource during the day. Like the client Linda was describing, you may get into it as a major practice that you spend a lot of time with. But that’s not necessary unless it turns out to be necessary for you because you want to do it.

The earlier portions of our first session of our free online course, Transmission of the HEART, sets the stage for why HEARTgazing with us can be of help to you as you make your way in today’s time of extreme challenges and changes. In the second session we discuss how HEARTgazing strengthens trust in yourself, others, nature and God and empowers your awakening.

Also, at our website where you can get full access to that course, we’re delighted to present, along with the other downloadable materials, a wonderful essay by our client and friend Mark Taylor of New York City, called “The Golden Rules of Gazing.” It’s a very informative, juicy, and at times humorous presentation, that also includes some traditional history of gazing from the likes of Rumi. Mark, by the way, is also a member of the New York Integral community and the Waking Down in Mutuality Meet-up Group associated with our work there.

Again, the PDF of that essay is at http://heartgazing.com/integral, along with the downloads of our audio recordings and photographs for the first session of the course.

We hope you’ve enjoyed our several recent conversations with our precious friend Ken Wilber, now posted on Integral Life, and we look forward to serving your Heart-full, integral life any way we can!
