What strategy would you employ for bringing the Integral approach to politics?
Can awareness be raised to see the need for parts of the Integral framework in this arena, despite the developmental differences? What steps could be taken to accomplish this? Aside from development, are there other ways to help people loosen their tight associations with particular political concerns and values? What is the primary thing that Integral Politics needs to fit in on the world stage?
--I have been wondering about this question since I began to understand Integral theory. I think it is one of the most complicated problems facing us right now.
I think the biggest factor is the language we use. Every stage has words it cherishes and words it despises.
Pet peeves:
Green: heirarchy, authority, etc.
Orange: God's plan, heirarchy, loyatly
Amber: equality, feelings, rights, etc.
Cherished words:
Green: feelings, equality, etc.
Orange: liberty, freedom, individual, etc.
Amber: God's plan, loyalty, heiarchy, etc.
A more complete list of words would further illustrate the conflicts that are bound to arise amongst these stages. Many problems in the real world need to be solved in a timely manner. We can't afford to sit around waiting for everyone to develop until they care about the environment, etc.
What we need to do is first identify the problem that needs to be solved, and is in everyone's best interest to be solved even if they aren't aware of it. Then we need to understand what it will take to convince and motivate all the people from the different stages to take action.
One of the problems is that when you speak the correct words to motivate one group to action, those same words make another group hate you. I don't know how this can be overcome. If each stage had their own media channel it would be a much simpler task. How can we phrase a problem in a manner that is acceptable and convincing to all stages?
I think we need to get issue specific.
The best and most pressing example i can think of is Global Sustainability. There is some really good material on this issue on Integral Naked and this site.
