Vivi-Mari Carpelan
Vivi-Mari Carpelan is a Finnish-Swedish symbolist artist who was born of two professional photographers in Helsinki, Finland, and has been resident in Wales, The United Kingdom, since 2010. In the early 1990s she was in search of her spiritual identity as well as creativity, and studied various forms of visual arts in France as well as philosophy, art history and comparative religion at Helsinki University. During this time, she was deeply influenced by integral thinking. The process of studying her own dreams was the start up of her career as a symbolist artist in 1991, and she then started exhibiting her own work. Her work has appeared in many solo and group exhibitions in Europe and the USA, often with a spiritual theme. Due to a chronic condition, she gave up drawing and painting in the early 2000s and turned to collaging instead. Her emotionally attuned images express a happy marriage between copy right free images of the collective past, and her personal visionary abilities.
