Psychosis or Mystical State?

Brother Wayne lived a truly blessed life, having so intimately felt the presence of God through direct and immediate experience—far beyond the blind faith and mental abstractions that seem to define so many people's relationship with the divine. For many, however, this raises a very important question: how can you tell whether experiences such as those described by Brother Wayne are genuinely mystical, or whether they actually indicative of some sort of psychotic episode?
