February 28 - March 3, 2010 | Washington, D.C. Hilton Washington
If you are deeply concerned about climate change and are committed to taking action, the 2010 State of the World Forum is where you and your organization need to be.
The February 28 - March 3, 2010 event in Washington D.C. is the continuation of a ten-year campaign to bring people together from around the world to work collaboratively to green our economies and develop more sustainable lifestyles. Nothing less than this will suffice to deal with the crisis we are in.
Our intent is to move beyond what we know to what we can do, both individually and together.
We invite you to join this global movement and contribute your skills and talents. Help us draw sympathetic organizations into this campaign, whether they be governments, businesses or activist groups. Spread the word through your network.
The future we want begins now. It begins with you. Please join us.

Event Format
The 2010 State of the World Forum will employ an integral framework to consider the complexities of climate change and what each of us can do about it. Essentially this means to take into consideration the natural way that humans evaluate challenges and develop responses. All of us have personal as well as communal values, and all of us engage in personal as well as collective actions. These four aspects – personal values, collective values, personal behavior, and collective behavior – all go into shaping our worldviews and our decisions. If we leave any one of these aspects out, we will not fully understand a problem. It is only by bringing all four aspects together that durable solutions will emerge.
Using integral thinking as the operating system of the conference, we will move far beyond the usual format of plenaries and workshops. Rather than talking heads, we are designing the entire three day conference as a process in which the entire conference will participate to understand how all the parts of our lives must come together so that we can act in a more focused and intentional way.
There will be three goals for the 2010 Forum:
• First, that by the end of our time together each one of us will come away better understanding what we each can do personally as well as collectively about the issue of climate change. Too often we know what the government should do but we don’t think that what we do individually makes any difference. We want to change that.
• Secondly, the whole point of our coming together is to take action around a ten year plan to green our economies and develop more sustainable lifestyles. This conference is not about just talking about the problem. It is about action – what we all can do to bring about the change we know must come for us to navigate successfully through the coming turbulence and come out the other side with a durable way of life.
• Thirdly, the 2010 Forum is not a one-off experience. It is the continuation of a ten year process that will meet in a different world city each year. The State of the World Forum in Washington D.C. February 28 – March 3, 2010 will be the second major convening of the 2020 Climate Leadership Campaign. Its purpose is to continue to expand the ten year strategy initiated in Belo Horizonte, Brazil August 4 – 7, 2009 and continue building collaborative strategies between climate leaders. It is ten years in length because it will take at least that long to get a significant start on greening our economies. This will provide all of us with the opportunity to make a life commitment to partner with peers all over the world to work together for the changes we seek.
