Puritan Sex
Posted March 17th, 2009 by Aaron Johnson in Reflection
It is 3:02 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2009. I am reflecting on love and lust and human emotion. Puritanism, it occurs to me, is a form of masturbation. Denial, repression, and the like are done because they are pleasurable just as much as tendencies considered more “hedonistic” are. Is it possible not to romanticize either denial or indulgence? If one would actually take in all sensation and response without presupposing a value to various phenomena, one could thus allow the values to exist, as they are, within the constructive emergence of the phenomena themselves. In this way, we emerge as a new kind of being, and our uniqueness lies in our ability to be entirely aware that we are what is being.
