Richard Rohr

I just watched Richard Rohr on Detroit PBS, awesome! He talked about what religion is suppose to lead to, he mentioned that he would like to stop all the Catholic programs and introduce one single program...SILENCE and CONTEMPLATIVE PRAYER. He mentioned the importance of practicing shadow-boxing and the lens that views all reality. Becoming in-touch with the seer, an ongoing process of watching the responses and reactions that daily life invoke.

He affirmed his Catholic faith - not by acknowledging any one belief structure but by acknowledging Mystery, that he says is not unknown, but something that continually evolves the knower.

What a wonderful surprise to find him on my television set this morning, speaking for the heart and from the heart of Christianity.

Thanks

Thanks.

I've heard Rohr a couple of times and what stands out for me  is his 'groundedness'.

He exudes authenticity, which probably arises through him embodying both the transcendent and immanent equally.

not free speech, but speech that actually frees…

Hi Anne,

Newton Minow once famously described television as a vast wasteland.

Most thinking people do not disagree with this description; and from my view TV often appears like a desert. Happily, occasionally plants do bloom even in the desert, rendering their beauty even more compelling by stark contrast.

I'm pleased for you, for Richard Rohr, PBS in Detroit, and for any person who happened upon what he had to say.

Words are such tricky things, but what tends to encourage me and keep me going, is that on occasion when the timing is amenable, and a given bit of speech strikes a chord within us, marvelous things can and do happen. Who knows, but I hold out the possibility that someday in some way, some words pass from one human to another, and a special sort of transmission actually occurs; words that might even trigger a tipping point.
