Theories for public health practice?

I have long wondered and searched for theories of public health practice and reserach. Many theories are to narrow and to locked into the health or wellbeing philosophies, and not covering all aspects of the human life and spirit. Hopefully this will give me something to base a greater understanding of public health and health promotion, and help me establish and use a theory in my research on edible vaccines in a public health context.
