Lama Surya Das bridging cultural divides
Lama Surya has a nearly unique ability to take traditional Tibetan teachings and transform them into meaningful, understandable and accessible practices for the western seeker. Nothing is lost in his translation because he teaches the experiential nature of the spiritual journey. The depth of his traditional training does not confine his approach, but seems to provide the "ground" from which everything arises and is experienced. His retreats are wonderful opportunities to "go deeper." As one of the leaders of the generation of teachers who were traditionally trained in the old ways and currently bringing these core teachings to the west, he is one of the voices bridging the gap between cultures by identifying that which is beyond such prejudices.
Pointing out, and helping identify the obstacles to understanding is a key role of the teacher, Lama Surya is a master. What a great choice for one of your key note speakers!

NICE TO SEE/HEAR THE PERSON WHO WROTE THE BOOK
Posted February 18th, 2010 by Pam MaccabeeGood to read your post, Barb. I've been reading, intermittently, THE MIND IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD, Enlightening the Mind, Opening the Heart. His loving and thoughtful nature is most evident. His Buddha Nature. Having "discovered" Buddhism Dec. 2005 at the young age of 61,thanks to "What Is Enlightenment," the magazine now entitled, "EnlightenNext," (I think), I've primarily been a reader rather than a practitioner tho I meditate off and on. It's TERRIBLE TO SAY, (haha) but I've not found one conveyer of Buddha's ideas to disappointed me.
So glad Integral Life has made these videos of the gathering available. I've not yet heard his presentation, but I know it will leave me with much to contemplate as I use my own practice for that contemplation.
Peace and love to all.
