Up to Earth
About Me
People use the expression 'Down to Earth' to describe me - but makes me wonder "Down from Where?". I'd rather call it 'Up to Earth' as an expression of the embodiment and manifestation of spirit in the everyday. My academic background is in earth science, geography and geomatics - I guess its therefore appropriate.
I'm the writer of the article on Integral Geography in the last issue of JITP, and live in Ottawa, Canada. Feel free to contact me if you want to connect.
Career
BSc Geology (87) - worked for 5 years in mineral exploration, marine geology/geophysics/oceanography, then like an evolving amphibian, crawled back onto land and started learning geomatics applications for Integrated Resource and Environmental Management (IREM).
MSc Earth Science (96) - then worked for 5 years at a more senior level in geomatics, including managing a large project in Russia. Started consulting on my own with a focus on applying mapping/geomatics for developing sustainability indicators...surprised to find out the field was not very advanced at all and at the same time discovered KW's books ....so went back to do a doctorate seeing if I could bridge these two seemingly very different worlds..
PhD Geography/Geomatics (06) - did a doctorate degree on applying partly what I set out to do - mapping indicators of sustainability - but the thesis turned out to be more of what I call an illustrative 'Geosophical' argument as to why geography matters in human knowledge in general, and in discerning notions of sustainability and wellbeing. Incorporated Wilber's AQAL model and elaborated it as a 'map' that helps guide us through a world of relativistic information....
Taught university for two years - now taking a break from academia to pursue more empirical work to advance my expertise in this area. Have my own consulting company - check it out at www.igeo.ca
