Barbi Hammond is dead

Hi All,  I noticed that Barbi Hammond has not posted in a long while and was wondering what was going on. I went to Facebook and saw that she died on July 7 2010. She was a prolific blogger on IL and saw that no one noticed. She did start to mention her health towards the end but nothing to this degree. It said she died in her sleep. Not sure what the real story was. I will miss her detailed long postings. Even though we had our many differences on IL. Thought you all might want to know.

while we're here

Learning of Barbi’s passing last year, from Adam Kennedy, I wrote…

“…thank you Adam. I didn't know until just now that Ms.Hammond had passed. After some giving of thanks for her bright brief time here, I'll move into appreciating what you brought to life together.”

Their collaboration yielded The Gamma Hypothesis.

We can all appreciate the spontaneous gestures of kindness, such as Barbi being given a much needed computer, anonymously, that flow from our relating to one another here.

On the eve of the tragedy in Tuscon I wrote to Joe Perez,

“I've just come across the letter left by Bill Zeller, and will begin to write from the heart rending space it evokes... meanwhile I could imagine that your feel for his expression might generate a powerful call to love, a potent reminder to reach out in our own circles of association…”

How precious, these opportunities to be present to each other!

One great example of how this far flung community grieves a loss, mourns, celebrates, was the attention given to appreciating Michael “Maxie” Sheppard when the Integral pods of the GAIA site were up. It’s good to see this thread begun, helping serve that inevitable function of community, living and dying together, acknowledging each other in all our arriving and departing, our showing up, and passing away.

May the energies of availability kindle ever deeper appreciations.

Strangely True....

Barbi was one of the first people I read when I tuned into IL a few years ago.... It was obvious to me, the degree of intelligence that was capable of operating through her and I found her to be a very interesting personality as well, when I read her profile page and watched her do a baton routine....

Sunday, immediately upon waking, the image of her performing that routine spontaneously appeared in my mind, along with the juxtaposition of some of the posts - 'through a glass darkly' as it were..... and then when I checked into IL, I saw your post Brian.....

She was so full of that wonderful frenetic energy, as Jennifer described....She was life.... living itself!

May she forever fly free - twirl on Barbi....

Thanks Brian

Wow. What a strange feeling. I remember being mystified yet intrigued by Barbi's postings, thinking she was funny and passionate and smart and definitely 'out there', particularly with her musical re-edit mash-ups. I remember her staunch stance against Global Warming deniers. We once had an eerie exchange in Oct-Nov of 2008 in which Barbi posted that Michael Crichton should retire due to his public skepticism on the subject, only to have Crichton pass away a few days later. She re-posted genuinely sorry for her personal jab at him.  It was kind of an intimate moment I believe we both felt in the LL. My heart goes out to Barbi and her family....

Dammit.

What a frenzy of longing and intelligence she was. God, I wish we hadn't gotten into such a bad spot.

One way or another, the interpretation of the Universe that I hold - the partial one with exclusions and pathologies and Shadows - must expand. It must. I'm doing the best I can, but it's not fast enuf to catch them all before they fall.

Blessings

Many blessings on her as her soul continues its path. Gosh, she was one of the most unique posters here at IL and though her writing was a challenge sometimes to completely grasp, her understanding of integral & time I thought were insightful and profound. I haven't signed on to IL in quite some time, but felt compelled to do so now just to enter these words on this page; farewell Barbi, bless you on your journey home.

fear and rememberance

The fear I have for people with Asperger syndrome, or like conditions,  lives itself out in the story of Barbi Hammond, my sister and other people who possibly become ill because of isolation and or/culture's ostrascization.

May her soul be at peace, and those who loved her comforted.

yes, this feels sad

Yes - after much vibrancy, self struggle, the flux of creativity and visions for the future, perhaps, she succumbed, or was taken. I do feel a mixture. Sweet journey, Barbi.

Thanks, Brian.

A Sad Loss Indeed!

Thanks so much Brian for bringing this to all our attention. She inspired me often and, sadly, didn't see her own gifts as many of us did.

With love,

Mary Linda
