Copenhagen Failure Defied by $200 Billion in Green Investments

Analysis by SpiralMan,

At 20% compound annual growth of renewables-related investment that leads to $1.2 Trillion by 2020, far larger than the $450B UN IPCC thought would be necessary to have a significant chance of avoiding the worst of the AGW problems, and which they also thought would require regressive energy taxes or Wall street enriching cap and trade.

And BTW, if you want to raise taxes to pay these upgrades or to disincentivize bad behavior, please leave energy taxes alone, but raise property taxes.  Property is where the wealth ends up that is extracted from everyone on the planet’s labor, and it is low property taxes which encourages people to buy oversized houses to maximize their mortgage interest tax deduction in the US or to maximize their untaxed sale from a 2-year flip in Canada.  These favorable tax treatments of real estate drives real estate development sprawl, and thus energy consumption for the vehicles that have to traverse these greater distances, and for heating or cooling these houses on an individual basis instead of having the energy systems integrated in multistory complexes with their attendant economies of scale not possible in single family detached dwellings.

So
the world will easily double, and possibly triple, the IEA’s recommended spending level even without Copenhagen, and strictly on the basis of the technology becoming increasingly affordable.

In other words, if the IPCC models are really worth anything, then global temperatures and sea levels, etc will not rise by much in 100 years.

BTW:

$200 BILLION spent on Green tech next year is how much larger than what King CONG companies are alleged to be spending on supporting Climate Skeptics?

When will the paranoid ecofascists recognize that they do more harm to the Solar Revolution then its open enemies in King CONG?

With their damning of solar with faint praise and presenting renewables as being so weak and statically expensive that it requires world society turning over even greater power and sovereignty to an imperial state to impose regressive taxation, green corporate cronyism, and wall street carbon ponzi bubble, this type of supporter actually hurts the solar revolution more than any oil company can.

Solar will inevitably win because 1) it is based on the same semiconductor and optoelectronic technologies of computing and the Web, which already have a proven record of exponential cost reduction over 5 decades using ever smaller amounts of ever more common materials, 2) because we live in a solar system not an earth system, and 3) because solar is the most democratically located resource on the planet, national, municipal or enterprise energy security can be most easily achieved by the largest numbers of people on the planet via solar.

Fear based motivations such as combating climate change are unnecessary and counterproductive.

The only question and the only answer that matters regarding energy and environment irrespective of whether there is or is not AGW, is Equal Watts?!
