Sarah Palin...just another pawn.

I had high hopes for tonight's speech. She started off incredibly. She had me enraptured with her talk of programs and advocacy for children of special needs. She impressed me with her talk of small towns and her commitment to the country. Her talk of being a Mayor and later the governor of Alaska was impressive.

She should've ended her speech after the first 20 minutes though. She would have had the American people in love with her. But, then she started talking about policy. And, of course she spent most of her time bashing the Democrats and Obama personallly. Yet, every single point she discussed was wrong. She simply lied. She lost my respect and my vote. By the way, this was the exact same speech she gave two 3 days ago, when she accepted the nomination....some of her quotes, jokes and points (excuse me, bashes against Obama) were word for word...the same!

Her experience is limited! She has not even finished her first term as governor. From hockey mom to VP candidate in less then 3 years. If people think Obama lacks experience, 11+ years as a senator at the state and federal level, then why is she "over-qualified" as the republicans like to say....oh yeah, Bush was a governor...look how well he turned out! McCain claims Obama is inexperienced, is he blind when looking at Sarah Palin?

1. She claimed Obama would increase taxes on our fellow Americans.

What Obama promises, is he will tax big business, the friends of John McCain. Remember McCain believes to be Middle Class means you make less then 5million dollars/year. So, I guess to him and Palin, a tax on big business would be like taxing HIS fellow americans.

2. She said Obama would tax small businesses

If she actually watched his speech or read his policy. You'll see he plans to apply the increased taxes from big business to 150 billion dollars in grants and support of small business. He specifically states that the backbone of our economy is "small businesses." McCain/Palin believe in giving tax dollars back to Americans so that we'll spend it at the Mall and give it right back to big business! At least that's what they hope we'll do.

3. She also stated that Obama/Biden would raise taxes...

Obama specifically stated "No new taxes.. for the middle class." So, my friends, that's us. Obama will tax big oil and big business and offer cuts to small business and the middle class. McCain/Palin will offer tax breaks and grants to Oil companies who are willing to drill in the arctic. High gas prices are caused by speculation and the market, not drilling! There's a huge supply of oil right now, and we all know there is more...so why do prices go up and down, with every whim of the weather and political maneuver...because of speculation, Sarah...not drilling or pipelines in Alaska.

4.  She claimed Obama has not passed one piece of legislation during his time in the State/Federal Senate.

"He has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation." ( Associated Press Writer Jim Drinkard)

5. Obama will increase government.

WOW!! Palin is completely out of touch. Has she not been awake the last 8 years. It was John McCain, George Bush and the republicans who voted and enacted the Patriot act, the removal of civil liberties, the enactment of the Patriot act II, approval of wiretappings and recordings of ordinary Americans. Oh and let's not forget, the reason no one has mentioned that Sarah commanded the Alaska National Guard...because she doesn't. IN 2006 Bush enacted a law that stripped governors of control of the National Guard for foreign policy use or miltary intervention.  Not Congress, but the president. So, currently GW is ultimately in charge of the Alaskan national Guard as well as all State National Guard divisions. Talk about increasing the size and power of the government!

After writing this blog on my personal site last night, I arrived at work this morning to see on Yahoo's home page, an article "RNC Fact Checking" that did everything but call Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin liars.  They definitly need to do their fact checking.  They detail even more "lies" from the RNC.

Now let's talk about spending! She claims to have saved Alaska ear mark dollars from the "bridge to nowhere," yet Alaska kept the money! Not only did they not send it back, or put it to good use, but they put the money into roads for the same "Nowhere" island! An island of 30-40 people. Notice she didn't discuss that point. Or that 2 years earlier she voted for the damn "Bridge to Nowhere!"

And to her point that John McCain will limit spending. Currently, we spend 10 billion dollars a month on Iraq, no matter what he does to cut taxes or cut spending, as long as the war continues, we will be increasing our deficit and burdening our children. And spending more then any other administration in the history of our country. Remember when Bush took over, he and McCain and the Republicans had a 3 trillion dollar surplus from the Democrats and Clinton....what happened to that Johnny??

So, if McCain is looking forward...to our future, why is he burdening our children with the debt of a pointless war.

As to the military achievement...I agree he is a "HERO." He had done some amazing things and performed his duty and is a huge reason why I walk around "free" today. But, remember that makes him a great SOLDIER, not a great leader. Some of our worst president's historically and some of the world's most evil men started off in the military. Some of the worst regimes to govern have been military regimes. I respect and admire John McCain's achievements and will never bad mouth his character, but I do not believe he will lead us in the right direction. A direction that is IN TOUCH with the American people and the middle class.

Finally, let's end with what Sarah did not talk about! Healthcare...the Economy, the housing crisis...ya know domestic issues effecting all of us.

McCain has no idea how to solve domestic issues, he's trying to win on Fear, the fear that the nation will not be secure without him. Everyone, the nation will not be secure with him. If we have no money, are in debt to china, ship our jobs overseas and have a government run by big business...we're not secure...we're enslaved!

I only ask one thing of both candidates...to discuss the issues. Again, the democrats have, at least, stuck to and discussed the issues.  They have a plan. Yet, McCain/Palin still have no idea what to do about the economy, healthcare, social security, etc. They believe it's fine the way it is and in the words of Phil Gramm (McCain's top economic advisor) "we're not in a recession. We've become a nation of whiners." Hopefully, the american people will see thru your "strategic" move and vote a new direction!

Vote Obama!

We're not in a recession

Bryan, I appreciate your passion, but respect for the facts goes both ways.  For the record, the U.S. is not in a recession.  GDP growth was almost 1% in Q1 and over 3% in Q2.

Pity the rest of us

At least you have a vote. The USA sneezes and us Brits catch a cold. Not that I'm saying that isn't our own fault....Ah well. Back to watching repeat episodes of the West Wing.

If you're interested, our media are telling us that the UK is in fact the only country experiencing a recession. This makes us feel a lot better after accidentally winning so many golds in the Olympics. This has thrown our national identity completely. How embarrassing if anybody starts to think we play to win rather than for the fun of the sport.

Pulling the wool over our eyes

If factcheck.org can so quickly go through all the speeches given at both conventions and the political ads on television and point out where the truth has been stretched or outright lies are given as truth, why don’t the candidates do this themselves? It seems that McCain/Palin are more prone to lying and Obama/Biden are more prone to embellishing the truth, but I don’t find either position acceptable. This is neither CHANGE nor is it COUNTRY FIRST. Politicians should attempt to sway voters by honestly stating their position rather than clouding the issues with lies about their opponents. Is it really necessary to deceive people in order to get their votes? Tell us the truth, and let us decide whose values most resonate with our own.
