Crunch time! Obama Administration (S/L9). . .
Posted September 13th, 2009 by Charles Bowling in notes from a sign reader
Hi All,
It's crunch time!
Last year during the campaign for the presidency, Mr. Obama's opponent Sen. John McCain, suggested that if Mr. Obama would be elected, that he would be subject to a test. At the time this was primarily thought to be a reference to Mr. Obama's supposed weakness in foreign affairs. This has proven to be only partially true, in that the president seems to be doing more than okay in foreign affairs, but in domestic matters the test is proving to be acute and difficult.
As usual the instrument of this prognostication, is the synodic lunation of the Obama administration. It happens on a 29+ day cycle and will recur on September 14, 2009 at 3:04 AM Eastern Daylight Time. The synodic lunation is a pet project of mine, and i have been at it for over 40 years; which puts me well past the 10,000 hours normally thought to be requisite for mastery of some technique. Over the years of watching my own chart as well as that of many others, including the Jimmy Carter administration, it became obvious that some months are more important than others. Typically this happens, when a planet or point in the current SL chart occupies a sensitive point in the chart of origin.
This setup is one of the features of the current month. Technically the Sun in the current chart, occupies the same degree that Saturn did at Mr. Obama's inauguration. This means that if the promise of the Obama administration to show itself to be shrewd is to actually manifest much will depend on the will and presence of the president himself. (It's outside the scope of this technique, but Mr. Obama's birthday chart, contained a similar indicator.)
What dominates this month is a terrific tension, an awareness tension, where two poles are basically in a tug-of-war with each other. A status quo, convinced by long and tedious experience, on one side, and almost a revolutionary urge toward sympathy on the other. And while the public fervor over this dispute about health care is not going away, it's likely to recede from public view, as the struggles switches to the Congress of the United States. The main aim of the administration, is likely to be to get bills passed in both houses, and sent to conference committee. Where there will be opportunity for administration supporters to apply maximum pressure, in order to produce legislation that the president can sign. (Simply put this means, effective control over costs, and extended coverage for the general citizenry; anything less would constitute failure.)
The chief opportunity for the president and company is likely to come through an appeal to a sense of obligation, that health workers, members of Congress, and the public in general have for those who suffer most under the current system. There are those who see the healthcare plans as a further wounding in an already troubled situation, and there are those who see it as part of a healing process. To move a significant number from the former camp into the latter will require a degree of social virtuosity, that will call deeply on the latent skills of this remarkable president.
Whatever difficulties present themselves during this period, slacking off will do no good whatsoever. Instead what is very clearly called for is taking obstacles head-on, and overcoming them.
Last month in this space i wrote. "These two groups are likely to see Mr. Obama as either compounding the problem, or as healer-in-chief. I am not among those who see this problem as set in stone, as a problem of some sort of fixed fate; on the contrary it's much more a problem of neglect, of accumulated bits of disrepair, and other costly misdemeanors. But make no mistake remediation of this condition and eventual passage of health insurance/care reform into law will require lots of continuing hard work. This calls for a concentration of effort, a special burden of which falls on the shoulders of Mr. Obama, as he needs to communicate both the necessity for and potential healing of the healthcare system itself." This is a quote, i think it's fair to say, that accurately describes the last 29+ days.
Many will be watching this month ahead as there is a great deal at stake -more than just healthcare. A failure could seriously damage the Obama administration.
Warmly,
Charles
