some introductory remarks on typing…

Happy Friday All,

There have been some recent postings about typing, including my own that made claims about a sophisticated system that employs a variety of types and subtypes. This prompted me to give some thought to giving introductory public demonstration supportive of those claims.

But before exercising that option I invite you to consider this: KW has put forth what to me amounted to an astounding claim about the significance of three pronouns, I, We, and It. Then he promptly proceeded to back up that claim by demonstrating how the big three can also be seen as the big four, by adding Its to It; and by extension the 4 quadrants basic to the AQAL matrix.

From the simple three pronouns he managed to extract a myriad of meanings, both in breadth and depth, filling many books with their explication and implications. When I looked around for something in my own life where a great deal of meaning could be extracted from very little data the only thing I could compare it to, was the birth data necessary to construct an accurate horoscope. Instead of three pronouns, that process requires a birth date, a birth time, and a birthplace.

Back in 1999, when KW was celebrating his 50th birthday, he was kind enough to respond by e-mail to a rather longish letter that I sent to him via his publisher. In it I asked him to confirm his birthplace, Oklahoma City Oklahoma, which he graciously did, remarking that, "He hadn't been back there since!" However his reply made no mention of birth time.

Please understand that so much material about individual potentials is available via a skilled examination of a birth chart that it borders on an invasion of privacy. Out of respect for this privacy I generally do not examine the birth chart of a living human without their permission. However, I do make exceptions for public figures and for infants and minor children as an aid to those who are charged with their upbringing.

So I put further investigation of KW’s birth chart on hold; although I couldn't help speculating privately on the hour of his birth. (More about that later.)

Then yesterday a brief bit of research with my favorite search engine, Bing I came across information that claimed KW to a given his birth time to a noted astrologer -who has since posted the data.

This confluence of events has changed my view of going public (in this space) about the kinds of things including various sorts of typing that this sort of study can reveal. And because KW tends to be known by many here, is possible general agreement about how he manifests in our world.

A good place to start is what is called temperament typing; the theory and practice of this technique claims there are seven basic temperaments or options that are open to humankind. And that everybody more or less fits into one or another of them -some are more common some not.

By this scheme KW's temperament is that of a translator, which is to say that he is predisposed like almost 40% of humanity to make known something which is not so well known. Teachers do this all the time, parents too. Temperament is important because it acts as a carrier or basis for further interpretation. (This is a big deal because there's so much information available in a birth chart that interpretation of it needs to have a basic structure, lest we be lost in detail.)

It happens that I am one of the 40% who shares this temperament structure, and I have something to translate as well. My self-appointed job is to examine the various factors that go into the ‘language’ of this sort of investigation, and turn them into plain English.

There is a very specific indicator in KW's chart that can be interpreted as follows. He is predisposed to have the capacity for very precise and unrelenting (almost obsessive) mental review. Consider his story of the yellow legal pads describing various schools of thought etc., which were central in his realization of the four quadrants; or consider his often used phrase “The traditions say…” Etc.

Let's return to the issues raised by an acknowledgment of KW's birth time. Among other things the birth time is determinant of our interface with the world. In simple terms it's how we see the world and how the world sees us. Over the years I've given some thought to what type of interface would be most appropriate to KW as I've come to understand him. So it came as no great surprise to me that his type of interface (yes typing is involved here too) is associated with a refined sense of justice/injustice, as well as a refined sense of the arts.
Consider his basic notion that no one is smart enough to be 100% wrong; this is a demonstration of his often wry sense of humor, but the basis of which is really a profound sense of injustice. And when it comes to the arts he's made special efforts to understand and classify all sorts of artistic expression, efforts that art critics in general could profit from.

It's important to add to these introductory remarks that a full explication of the many types and subtypes included in this school of thought brings a granularity to the whole question of human potential. By analogy consider a digitally generated image, it's made up of pixels -tiny points of light, where the more that are available represent the possibility of a clearer image.

So high is my confidence level in the results of this lifelong study that includes typing that I claim that no other system known to me points with such scope and poignancy to what is usually called the Unique Self.

Hi Charles,

Thank you for posting this. If you don't mind I would like to offer you my critique, with some assumption that you understand the value and respect I give to your 40+ years of mastering the discipline of Astrology.

I think the rich and fertile ground from which you speak was minimally conveyed, and although I understand your humility I think that in this case it was a distraction, compromising the fruitfulness of this practice.

There is very little certainty (if any) in this world, but sometimes we find our self standing on a platform that exists precisely because we have dared to take that step, and experience its sustenance. Sometimes I think we get our logic backwards, we imagine that reality creates our understanding...rather than we creating reality. So much of what I know and feel most passionate about resides before animation, and the difficulty I have is daring to make it real. That means taking those first few steps in the dark and uncertain passageways, finding out if the ground will hold me or if I must make an alternative movement. Once I do that though, it is not enough to simply live there, it must be inhabitable by all. The final test of its validity.

I did not hear you describe the ways in which certainty meets uncertainty, the way in which you hold this paradox and the way in which you find the balance which gives your life its meaning. You don't have to prove to me its accuracy, rather prove to me the means and ways in which it fulfils your purpose. How does it satisfy that which looked for satisfaction, what is the character of that brand of polarity?

I hope you understand my questions, but more importantly I hope you understand that I ask simply because there is so much more of you that I know...that failed to be transmitted here.

Anne

Wow

Hello Charles,

Happy Friday to you also. Are you available to make a chart for me? Thanks in any event.
