Somehow i am not entirely surprised....

....at your reaction.  Oh well.  I am sure others will find it as funny as i did.

Circum-super-size?  Come on, that's hysterical.

Sometimes the world is so damn heavy, it can be nice to bring just a little bit of levity, without deconstructing the joke, dissecting the the punchline, or dismembering the target audience.  Sometimes i just need to laugh, without assigning an AQAL constellation to my laugher.

Tina Fey as Sarah Palin

Schalk, what do you think of this...

www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/couric-palin-open/704042/

I think this is much higher satire...because yes, Sarah Palin is adorable in a way...

it is less mean than Silverman...wonder how a Republican would react to this....

I Heart Tina Fey

What makes this SNL skit so funny is the fact that Tina Fey is repeating Sarah Palin's actual Couric interview nearly verbatim.  The next 5 weeks of SNL will be interesting :)  and easy for the writers if Palin keeps writing her own material haha

Greens/Reps

Hey

I dont know what people like about her, I like that she`s as young as I am, smart and fresh.

Sounds simple, because, thats what most entertainers want to be like, but she is. But she is not too funny, shure.

Further: Shure, youre right about how the ambers see greens, but what you said is: first-tier memes(in this case green and and amber) cant see each other, and thats a possible definition of first-tier, so whats the point?

Youre dscribing the self-view of amber, but greens have a place in this society as well.

Further, I am uncomfortable with this because of the following reason: the beginning of the modern era was accompanied

by orange enlightening and green deconstructing amber bigottry.

Forgetting that and the fact that criminality, like gangs, mafia, dictators, child molesters etc mostly result from amber(last point is my speculation, but I am taking part in a study concerning child molesting and political taste), presenting amber as what it likes it self to be since it has lost the total authority is tooo fair towards amber.

Great Video

I really enjoyed the video. I thought it was hysterical and beautiful, one of the best videos of the kind that I've seen. I thought the jokes were great, and kind of sophisticated as these things go. I also loved the music and how well that worked with the whole thing. The cinematography was really cool as well.

I also think there is a bit of truth in what Schalk is saying. The "America is an asshole" comment, for example, usually comes from Red, Amber, Orange, and Green of other countries, and American Green, of course, joins that chorus. I happen to agree with the video politically, so it didn't bother me much, but it's something to be aware of.

Meme-mining and inner selves

Hi Folks,

My inner Repulbican totally agrees with Schalk on this one. Sarah Silverman is the epitome of disrespect and unwholesomeness.

However, my inner Republican was not running the show while I was watching (s/he only came out after reading Schalk's post)...

"I" found myself grinning and sniggering along...

The first time I saw Sarah Silverman, I couldn't quite believe it...I was intrigued...she was both offenisve and attractive...let me see if I can tease this apart...

my inner Rock Chick LOVES her kick-ass, in your face fuck-you rebelliousness...she will break every taboo, destroy everything you cherish, cross the line...but with a kind of amiable self-mocking cutsieness that keeps the whole thing light and adequately meaningful

Intellectual Sidebar: humor has been called a "healthy" defense in that it allows us to speak about things that are really too heavy and terrible to speak about directly

SS is definetly saying something in her work, and this ad is a logical progression

...Amber is prudish, somewha terrified of Id, and therfore easily sppoked and offended...I think, therefore, that it is Sarah's Red that disgusts Amber

mm, also a Green inner self is a bit offended by the meanness of her spirit...why is all this caustic humor necessary or really so laudable, when the real task for all of us is to open our hearts...?

Cheers,

The Janines

Sarah Silverman

c'mon, she's cute and sassy, the video is pacey...

"i'd much rather have a president named  lightning than one named after a toilet (flash a graphic of portapotty) or someone who fucks hookers" ok, I just re-read that thinking it wasn't funny at all, but when she said it, it was

her shtick is adolescent (Red) contrasted by slighlty hapless but fresh-faced little girl (nice Jewish girl...Amber) plus Jewsih liberal smart cookie...(orange)

and the self-deprecating humor is a jewish thing I've always liked

tell me what you think of the Fey-Palin skit

american assholes!

Hey. As the theme of global anti-americanism came up, I like to comment that from a euro-perspective(btw, this is NOT an amrican-only site. Here and there I saw threads speaking about "we" without concrete contextualisation(we americans) while meaning "we americans". That perfectly fits into the prejudices everybody(else but americans) has.).

One thing I am sure most america dont exactly realize is that the anti-americanism of most of the world is no single movement, but america functions like the jews, giving a projectional space for everybody and everyproblem.

So, like David Marshall said , all memes have some form of anti-americanism for different reason.

From the beginning of the modern era on, Every nation tried to dominate the others, and the US have won, so now all the others play good boys and girls and point with the finger at the one that acts by self-referencing will. The badness ambers see in the US is their own shadow, their imperialist fashist wishes, f.ex. and so.

On the other side, there are a whole lot of really stupid americans, cant do anything about it, and still(did I say I love the States?!; )  their is really sick media stuff.

I can see why that americans can not simply say " yes", when confonted with aoutside-criticism, but I see none of them searching a third way.

For example, no it is not about bringing the soldiers back home, it is about all that kids that are dying because they dont get no medication

a because of the US going there

b because of the US not staying there(after they fucked the whole place up with out any real reason but hallucinations

of amber idiots(am I non-integral? I think a certain elitarism should also be part of integralism.

But american greens think it is good to get them back home. Obviously they shit on the people they once helped to kill, slash, rape and cripple. These are the things that also bring well-meaning friends of the USA like me and many others who supported the US as good as they could through these very hard years, to be disgusted.

So instead of identifiying ourselves and playing partisans we as the integral community should be willing to want to overcome this fragmentation and see these conflicts without to much personal identification.

Everybody sucks!(a little)

Cheers

Did the Great Schlep work?

An update, from Daily KOS:

Is The Great Schlep Working?

Tue Oct 14, 2008 at 06:45:04 PM MST

Two weeks ago, Sarah Silverman and The Jewish Council for Education and Research launched The Great Schelp, a campaign designed to get young Democratic Jewish voters to go to Florida and convince their grandparents to vote for Barack Obama. The video was an overnight sensation.

Today, CNN.com's front page story provides some anecdotal evidence from a young Jewish voter who took The Great Schlep challenge and set out for Florida. Turns out, The Great Schlep may be working:

When Bender recently returned to his grandparents' retirement community in Tamarac, Florida, near Fort Lauderdale, he was greeted with several surprises. Months of telephone conversations and his trip had paid off: His grandparents told him shortly after he arrived that they were going to support Obama.

The next surprise was that his schlep had generated interest around their retirement community. A lot of interest. So many other seniors wanted to hear about Obama that the venue for a meeting on the subject had to be changed from the Furst's living room to a ballroom in the community's clubhouse.

An hour before Bender started to make his case about Obama on Sunday, groups of senior citizens were staking out space in the ballroom. Soon there were more than 100 people and no more chairs.

Sporting an Obama T-shirt with Hebrew writing on it, retiree Morty Brill said, "The economy, the war, you think you can trust Republicans to fix them?

Ha! He went to talk to his own grandparents and more than 100 seniors turned up to hear his Obama pitch. Even though he felt they were being swayed, Mike Bender was not content to leave it at that and he pulled his final trump card -- guaranteed to tug at their parental heartstrings:

However, Bender felt the need to drive the point further. If Obama was elected, he said, then Bender would not worry so much about politics and "would have more time to find a nice Jewish girl to marry."

Whether Mike Bender's schlep really changed any minds is anyone's guess, but the applause from the crowd was deafening.

A funny idea, based on real need, has now created a whole schlepping movement. Our side is lucky to have so many creative people working on the movement, making a real impact. Bravo to Sarah Silverman, the JCER, and all you schleppers out there!

I just want to say,

Though I respect the reasons you undoubtably had for putting it up, THAT WAS THE WORST THING I'VE EVER SAT THROUGH. Sarah's really just a terrible comedian.
