new paintings
Here are a couple of new paintings. I'd love to hear what you all think. The first one is called "Closure" and the second one is "Backyard." 15inch square. oil on panel.

My admiration
Posted October 31st, 2010 by Shikha SabharwalFour different skies. Beautiful. I like that the bird moves with its own sky. I like that a lot.

subject
Posted October 31st, 2010 by Shikha SabharwalMaybe in the second one, in the top left corner, where there is a section of just tonal variation, if you added some contrast, and possibly like cerulean or naples yellow, or maybe naples and some non-earth red, vermillion maybe? probably not - but some red, with naples and white. Or cerulean. I don't know. Color, I mean - so it comes forward and there is a kind of dynamic pull between the bottom of the painting, which comes forward, by way of proximity (and technique obviously) - and another part, so that the eye is not just drawn to rest as it would in nature.

Tracing paper is really useful, if you fear destroying a piece, but want to experiment

Living Art.....
Posted November 1st, 2010 by Justin ManchesterDavid,
Thanks so much for sharing your work.... While I have enjoyed both pieces - "Backyard" has a "living" quality that is luminous and inviting - quietly ushering me in to another world....

new persectives are beautiful
Posted October 31st, 2010 by Kamm--Hi David,
Thank you for sharing. I think your paintings are beautiful, I love the variety of perspective that you bring. Your technique is developed, and i can really allow my mind to fall into the images; I would love to see them in person. How big are they?
As I ask myself when I am painting on canvases, "I wonder what I will do with these beauties?" Is there anyway that they can add to the greater good, either by message or by utility? I wonder if I am alone in this questioning of art's usefulness?
I would love to hear what anyone has to say on that in a related thread.
Nice work, Kam
