Stefano, the one I most go "maybe" "po" on, is the "Rationality won't save us." Sometimes maybe for some period of time and context, yes, it may be the essential saver - and of course, ultimately, rationality is just part of the huge mix in how we live at our bests and even worsts. And rationality is so tenuous that it is almost not rational. I guess that is in the territory of what McNamara was feeling/thinking.

It is interesting that on the one hand he says, "Rationality won't save us" and on another hand he says, "Proportionality should be a guideline in war". As you know, rationality has as its root, the stem, "ratio", and ratio speaks to proportion. So yes, no, po :-) .
