the right the exterior

am i totally confused ? isn't the exterior .. for example in a meeting .. the room the table the powerpoint the temperature your body language your suit etc .. in addition of course to what u "do"

i remember an emergency meeting called with a large group of staff on casual day and one of the directors came in to speak about some pretty serious stuff .. and he stood up there in his golf shirt and somehow didn't quite get the respect as when he wears a good suit .. just an observation

Dress for success and levels and stages!

Hi Dee - I like to think of it as 2 overlapping circles.  One is my interior true self, and the other is the mask I show the world.  I might wear a suit to look like I have authority, and gain respect but on the inside I may well be quivering with fear or rejection and a weak self image.  The suit helps me out in various situations.  The farther apart the overlap the wider the gap between who I really am and what I am showing on the outside. When the circles are completely overlapped you have the WYSIWYG in every aspect of my life.  Sounds like your boss did risked showing his true self when the audience expected the mask.

But on reflection of your example, and some of the integral theories, I wonder if an person with an evolved integral perspective would not only wear the clothes that they felt comfortable wearing, but would be savvy enough to wear what would also make the persons or groups they are relating to also feel accepted and comfortable.  In a way, i see that happening with politicians on the stump, dressing to emulate the audience they face - unbuttoned shirt no tie in one city and black tie & suit to a upscale business crowd. Is it manipulation or integral clothing sense?  Good question.

all the best,

Carolyn
