What is the use of being aware of the great chain of being?

If Wilber has written that no one really knows what triggers a a person so he/she ascends the ladder of being, then what is the use of being aware of the great chain of being?

Increasing your odds

The great golfer Ben Hogan was interviewed and he was asked what makes him so good at the game. Hogan said, Golf is really just a game of luck. It's just luck. I can't control the ball. I hit the ball, and where it ends up going is really just luck. It has nothing to do with me at all. I'm not involved. What happens, happens on its own accord, it's just luck. The interviewer responded, But, Mr. Hogan, you're famously known for practicing twelve to fifteen hours a day, every day. If it's really just luck, then why do you practice so much? Hogan responded, Of course. The more I practice, the luckier I get!

Objectifying the Subject

Every time we turn the Subject into an Object, we advance in development. Being aware of the GCoB does this for us. I heard Diane Musho Hamilton say that when you turn the Subject into an Object, suddenly there appears, "The Ten-Thousand Things". Which is apparently from some Zen teaching. You see how things work.

For example: when I realize that I feel a certain way around violence because it serves my inner reptile's survival strategy, I become less likely to rationalize my feelings to some other cause and more likely to make a decision that serves my survival at higher levels of being. I also become aware of why other people participate in violence and have the reactions and feelings they do, and I forgive them easier. On and on and on. The list of things I come to understand and become better able to navigate and manipulate is endless.

led

Eduardo, just to follow on from Jennifer's comment, can you say anything about what led you personally to become aware of the great chain of being?
