Integral Spiritual Experience
The Integral Spiritual Experience looks absolutely wonderful and I'm grateful it's happening! At the same time, I note the lack of diversity in the presenters and this is a real concern. Is effort being made to seek out diversity in the leadership of the integral world? Is there a reason, a blind spot perhaps, that is the reason for the lack of diversity?
An exciting opportunity when this clear problem is faced in honesty and love.

Diversity
Posted March 28th, 2010 by Billy GuilfoyleKen has interviewed 'Saul Williams' a few times, and he also was invited with Cornel West, the African American philosopher from Princeton to do the commentary over the three Matrix films for the special addition DVD release. Marc Gafni is Jewish, Father Thomas Keating is old, Deepak Chopra is East Indian, Leonard Shlain is dead, Rupert Sheldrake is English, Serj Tankian is Armenian, Beena Sharma is East Indian, Diane Musho Hamilton Sensei is hot, wise and female, and the list of regular contributers to this site can go on and on. There's really a lot of diversity. Ken's good buddies with all of these people just mentioned, and most of the rest of the regular contributers. Hope this helps.

Diversity continued...
Posted March 31st, 2010 by Harriet HawkinsI appreciate your responses and I agree there is diversity and it's important to acknowledge that.
Since I have so many amazing, awake African American friends, I'm more conscious of this aspect of diversity. When I scroll through the leadership for the integral spiritual experience at Asilomar, the striking lack of African American leadership concerns me. My African American friends who know I'm passionate about the integral world, point the lack of African Americans in the leadership and their lack of interest in attending in January because of it.
As one friend taught me, it takes effort to create diversity, organizations don't have to wait for it to come to them, but intentionally seeking it out. By making an effort to bring in racial diversity into the leadership, it reveals this is an important value of the integral community and therefore welcoming for other African Americans to join. And conversely, if there are no African Americans in the integral leadership for January (and in general), it can imply something else.
