The state of education in America

This is a FYI post of a slightly dated PowerPoint presented at the Massachusetts STEM II (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Summit in 2005 by Katie Haycock. It provides a pretty self explanatory view of education, particularly in mathematics in America. It provides an overview of the NAEP assessment which allows for comparison between state student mathematics performance in America, the TIMSS which does the same thing between countries, and the PISA which is also an international comparison.

This is a very well-done compilation of where the problems are and it makes it pretty clear that our educational system is not bringing students up to competency or the ability to compete in our increasingly technologically based world quickly enough. I hope you find it informative.

So, I guess this is just support for the urgency of the need for an integral educational program.
