Your recommendations--getting started with Ken WIlber
Greetings.
I found out about Integral at the beginning of '09 after reading the book Integral Life Practice, which I discovered while browsing Ken Wilber's Web site. It's the first book I've read that is based on his theories. I'd like to read some more of his work and just wondered if anyone had any recommendations--i.e. if you were going to start reading Ken Wilber's work, where would you begin?

Approaching Wilber
Posted February 8th, 2009 by sham609Personally, I wish I had read Brad Reynolds excellent overview of AQAL metatheory "Where's Wilber At?" before tackling Wilber's works. Reynolds lays out the structure and evolution of Wilber's theory in a very readable/understandable format. With Reynolds book as a foundation, I think reading Wilber's work will make much more sense to you.
Best of Luck!
P.S. Reynolds book is published by Paragon House, but can be found in Amazon for under $20.

An esoteric viewpoint
Posted February 9th, 2009 by Erik StittI approach things from a much more esoteric viewpoint having recognized the illusory nature of the apparently solid. I recommend my all-time favorite book of Ken's, " The Simple Feeling of Being" which is full of wonderful prose and ethereal illuminations outlining earmarks to the territory that are both understandable and profound and the second book by Ken that I recommend is "One Taste" which is a one year, diary-like account of Ken and his daily applications of an Integral Lifestyle. Both are beautifully and sensitively exquisite works of spiritual expression and human sharing. Spiritual literary decadence at it's finest!

Reading and listening intros to Ken Wilber
Posted February 9th, 2009 by David RoelReading: Brief History of Everything
Listening: Kosmic Consciousness, a ten-cd set from Sounds True. I think a wonderful introduction that I give to anybody starting out. I find people are less intimidated about the idea of listening to difficult material.

agreed
Posted February 9th, 2009 by steven martiniWhat a great way to start off the new year, Roswell. Congrats on finding the integral door and letting it smack you in the face you had before you were born.
:)
"A simple feeling of being" really tickled me in the subtle. It's a pretty concise collection that gives a good taste of them all.
Also Kosmic Consciousness is an awesome 10 cd conversation that I'd recommend highly. But the 1-2-3 of God is a condensed and cheaper version of the same conversation that works really well, if your budget is a concern.

Touching Side
Posted February 26th, 2009 by Anna PizeloIf you wanted to get into the human qualities of Wilber, read Grace and Grit. The book is an extraordinary moving personal story of his relationship with an incredible woman he was with that died of cancer. He was very honest, open, and brave in sharing such a profoundly intimate life experience.
For an introduction to his work, I'd have to agree with some of the others and say that A Brief History of Everything is a wonderful book to start with.
