Keep On Playing Those Mind-Games Forever--John Lennon

If indeed it is true that whatever the mind can conceive it can also create, then the discussion about the Technium with Ken and Kevin Kelly might be seen as one of those that sets the stage for the concrete actualization of conscious machines.  At this stage of the game, machines appear to be metaphors of ourselves...kind of like extensions of the mind that act to produce and perform in ways that correlate to whatever stage of evolution to which we ourselves have attained.  What was once an analogue world where information could travel through telephone lines at speeds fast enough to hear the thoughts and ideas of others speaking into communication devices designed to carry those signals, is now a digital world where that same information travels at what might comparatively seem to be the speed of light and is simulaneously translated into sound waves we could only dream of doing in the early years of the last century.  Does the metaphor, "breaking the sound barrier" now apply to the light barrier, and are we standing at the edge of history where we ourselves translate into that light which is beyond all boundaries?
