John Speers

Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. -- Jesus (Matt. 7:7 )

I have been a spiritual seeker all my life. A significant part of my journey has been an attraction-repulsion struggle with my Christian roots. Encountering KW's books some years back brought a wonderful affirmation of the path I have been traveling.

I have been doing Centering Prayer for 35+ years. I love the apophatic mystical tradition—Meister Eckhart, John of the Cross, Marguerite Porete, and the whole gang.

In 2005 I took a break from my career as a computer programmer to attend Drew University Theological School. Completed my M.Div. in 2008 with intentions to seek ordination in the United Church of Christ in conjunction with starting a more integral sort of congregation here in New York's Hudson Valley. Have since become very jaded about the viability of traditional church structures and about whether Christianity is really a healthy spiritual path for people today given its immense distortions and negative baggage. Still working through that one.
