What to do about crazy Blue?
I'm curious to know how integral folks think fundamentalists should be handled... what should be done about this, for example: http://www.texasobserver.org/dateline/he-who-casts-the-first-stone

flexible laws
Posted March 16th, 2010 by stefano
Orange laws give us a right to peaceful protest. In terms of function, it doesn't matter whether we agree with the subject matter of their protest. In orange to green laws, the problem starts when that protest causes alarm and distress, creates a fear of violence and attack. In the UK, we have laws that can actually get you locked up for any behaviour that is causing alarm, harassment, or distress. People can't get past it by staying within the technicalities of what's legal -- if you walking outside a school talking to children is causing alarm and distress, you can be told not to do it. If you then continue to do it, you are breaking the law.
The orange to green judges are very reserved about issuing these orders, but they do issue them and it tends to be about stopping pedophiles from hanging around schools, getting parents to keep their vandal kids indoors at night, that sort of thing. There was one case of a woman told to stop making too much noise during sex, but I gather she was doing it deliberately and repeatedly just to annoy the neighbours in a "fuck you" kind of attitude. So the judge told her to shut up. It is a very flexible system adaptable to individual nutters.
So if these red-blue nutters were persecuting people, even without breaking the technicalities of the law, it would just need enough witnesses to say, yeah, these guys showed up and we were terrified. They have persecuted us repeatedly and they have a personal vendetta against us. They practically stalk us. So the law could then say, you guys, just you guys, you people perpetrating this intimidation, you have to stop, and in fact, you're not allowed to come to this street and this house any more. And if you do we will arrest you.
This doesn't mean other people can't protest, it doesn't mean other people can't write articles about morality and Godliness. It just means that you personally are not allowed to visit this street any more. If others want to stage a peaceful protest, fine. But if they cause alarm, then we'll stop them too.
It is similar to the problems of dealing with stalkers. They can act entirely within the legalities of the law, so the laws had to adapt to "handle" them. Police in the UK are now trained that, if a woman comes to you and her story doesn't involve anything illegal, but it just gives you the creeps, then you have to take it seriously.
Obviously such subjective decisions are prone to abuse if the law officers are red themselves, but if they are orange to green, then you're letting them handle stuff where otherwise their hands would be tied.
Of course it relies on the judges being at a higher altitude. If the local community is heavily blue-red themselves, then the only answer is for all these people to leave.

A Taste of Their Own Medicine
Posted March 17th, 2010 by Jennifer GroveThe "Wider World", as Billy calls it, has very different standards than this Repent Amarillo Group. Expose that group to the view of the Wider World. Get them on cameras of your own. Facebook them. YouTube them. ABC News them. CNN them. I'm tempted to start a Facebook page right now. It's not difficult. But someone with access to footage and audio needs to do that. Is that you, Joshua?
How 'bout you, Billy?
And can you do this kind of work with love in your heart and a desire for reconciliation?
I have a feeling, Stefano, that if this happend in England, the Repent Devonshire! Group (or whatever :-P) would be using your laws to claim that the Swingers are causing them "alarm and distress". How would that be stopped, then?
Stupid nutters, indeed. I'm gonna bring this up to my Emerger Friends on FB. This sucks.

It's time
Posted March 16th, 2010 by Billy GuilfoyleIt's time we put the fun back in fundamentalism. And it sounds like the fundamentalists are getting pretty close to swingers parties these days, even if it is outside protesting, they do like to orbit around abortion clinics, swinger's parties, and the like. Those fundamentalists sure know where the party's at! Nice. Have a listen to this news broadcast I did about the fundamentalist mythic religions. I think you'll like it. It's short but sweet. www.ilike.com/artist/search
