Let's live on the planet as if we intend to stay.
I discovered Integral in 2006 via my wonderful coach, Helaine Iris. Attended Integral Sustainability and met so many amazing people, many of whom I'm still in contact with today. I'm definitely no expert, but I do count Integral as foundational to how I think and work.
As an architect, I tend to follow my passions and intuition in business. In the mid-1990s, I was instrumental in starting the sustainable design movement in Baltimore. As an advisor to the 2007 Solar Decathlon, I helped to steer team LEAFHouse to be the top-placing American team, a second-place-overall finish. This brought international attention to the University of Maryland, which was pretty nice -- something other than their football team and their post-game riots.
I tend to see dismal environmental statistics as a challenge. Surely, with intelligence, creativity, and collaboration, we can do better. I frequently share this message on my blog, GOforChange.com, and I love to speak at events, conferences, workshops and other gatherings. I also worked with a fabulous group of visionaries to organize a local Bioneers conference in Baltimore in 2007 and 2008.
My expertise is as an industry-changer. I have worked with businesses & institutions to develop sustainability initiatives and Climate Action Plans. I continue to work with mission-driven enterprises to integrate sustainability into their core strategies. Starting with clear framework and vision, they reduce waste, tap new markets, craft a green brand and message, develop new products, assess and reduce their footprint, and give back to their community.
My years of competitive sailboat racing taught me that when good design is combined with clear vision, steering for changing conditions, and a healthy respect for the forces of nature, great results are possible!
When I'm not obsessively updating the "What We Do" page on my website, I love to spend time with my 8-year-old son Toby, my gourmet-cook husband, do yoga, run, bike, lift weights, or read (at least 3 or 4 books at the same time). I frequently need to be reminded that "doing nothing" is actually good for me.
