psychology question, and post-ethics question
"post-ethics" meaning the ethics of posting on the integral life forums. is it all supposed to be about spirituality and enlightenment? i'm confused. i guess it doesn't and i guess that's a dumb qu?stion
the psych question was...
is formal operational orange or green? or is it both? and is concrete operational blue? i could look it up but i'm lazy and bored and just wanted something to talk about.

spiritual mumbo-jumbo...
Posted September 21st, 2010 by Lincoln MerchantI only just got on this forum this week, but I've seen posts about media, culture, politics, and so forth. It seems pretty open. I hope it doesn't all have to be about Enlightenment since I'm not very Enlightened ;-)

Hi.
Posted September 21st, 2010 by Jennifer GroveRegarding the post-ethics question (which I think is a WONDERFUL term, btw!), I believe it's okay to talk ABOUT anything, but important to have standards around HOW and WHO is speaking. I think that's the gist of the page Brendan linked you to.
Good answer, Brendan.

As you probably know, formal operational and concrete operational are Piagetian terms for stages in the cognitive line. If you mean the Wilberian color system, formal operational would be orange and concrete operational would be amber.
Blue refers to Spiral Dynamics which is a different line from the cognitive line; it is the values line. Since it is a different line, you can't accurately desribe levels from one line with terms from another.
If you mean to say something about cognition, I personally think it is best just to stick to the terms meant for that line. So in this case, I would favor talking about formal-operational cognition as opposed to orange cognition. Formal-operational has a set of characteristics that it describes while orange essentially means nothing except referring you back to the formal-operational term. I think it's more clear just to cut out the middle man so to speak.
What do you think?
