meditation question
I found the lecture and Michal Levin's approach both very helpful - a compassionate and truly embracing view.
I've attempted various approaches to meditation in the past but this has been the most natural fit to date. Despite this, I had one question for anyone with something to share. My biggest challenge getting engaged with a process is the level of reaction I experience. It's difficult to describe, but any approaches I've tried leads quickly to an overwhelming rush of...I'm not sure what. Anxiety isn't quite right, neither is fear. I want to say arousal, but that's not quite right either. Its like an onslaught of pressure and raw energy - sometimes with a feeling of warmth, sometimes with an emotionality that's tough to pinpoint - that impacts everything down to the ability to maintain and even breath.
I can stay with it, and work to allow whatever needs to happen to simply happen, but its exhausting and difficult and I'm not really convinced I'm being productive. It also makes the entire process difficult to engage in. If anyone has some wisdom I'm all ears.

Kundalini
Posted November 15th, 2010 by Kevin MatthewsHey Kori,
Sounds like Shakti energy. Maybe you've awakened your Kundalini?? It is sometimes described as a feeling of sexual arousal (doesn't do it justice, but its the closest sensational description to which we can relate without actually experiencing Kundalini energy itself). If that is the case, don't force it, just let it be. Let it grow and expand of its own accord as it moves through your chakra system and works out the energetic kinks in your body. And I would definitely echo Jennifer's words - find a coach, teacher, somebody who is familiar with meditation techniques and experiences so they can guide you through the process. And check out the book Kundalini Rising. You might have difficulty finding it at your local library, but its definitely at any one of the big booksellers. Might be worth a peek to ya - it describes everything you would need to know, including testimony and experiences from medical doctors, PhD's, etc.
Hope this helps...

My Guess...
Posted November 15th, 2010 by Jennifer Grove...and it is just a guess, is that you need to be doing this with a coach/teacher. That's what they're there for.
If this is impossible, and you're on your own, then I can only suggest what I have actual experience with: learn the DIY methods of Shadow Work and Voice Dialog and start moving those Right Brain events over into the Left Brain for processing. They need language to help them form into manageable bits. Study Childhood Development and let it jog your Brain for clues. Learn about the different Stages of Cognition and let those sink in as well.
Since you're a guy and I don't know you, I'm going to take a really rude guess and say you may need some help learning how to put words to feelings. Use the NVC materials or other comprehensive lists. I prefer the NVC because they skillfully distinguish between emotions and interpretations of other people's behavior and thots. They are fantastic. If you already know this stuff, then I'm sorry about the stereotyping.
I've had "energy" sensations too, but I've found ways to manage them so far by allowing them to be "Beings" that exist inside my body. "This Being" only wants this certain thing, and "that Being" only wants that certain thing. They have hungers, eyes or no eyes, mouth, hands or no hands, story or no story yet. This way of talking about them has left lots of room for more development and a relationship and friendship. Today, even, I experienced one of them actually getting what she lives for for the first time in months, and this was the first time I was aware of her while she was feeding. It was a pretty sweet experience and deepens the sense of satisfaction. I don't know what will happen next. I'm totally winging this! I'm hoping that more Beings will awaken and that we will become aware of each other.
Good luck and Love and Blessings on your Journey.
Post Script:
I forgot to ad that I think you'll be better of if you don't resist stuff when it comes up. If you're having trouble maintaining a calm breath, then "go into labor and breathe thru the contraction". The one thing I can assure you is that something will eventually be born for you to love.
