Reconstruction and Eagle Vision

Stories of corruption take up a good deal of space in our daily newspapers, and are a part of almost every news broadcast, whether on radio or TV.

When one examines the history of homo sapiens, one discovers that corruption is not something new.  Each major stage of development has always brought with it not only the potential for growth but also the possibility of pathology.

The tale of corruption as its plot has unfolded, has included as its principal characters, tribal leaders, religious leaders, leaders of countries, political leaders and business leaders. As the centre of gravity for groups of individuals has changed so too has the form of corruption.

As Ken Wilber so correctly points out, we all start out at stage one and then have to develop through the various stages.  As the world today is made up of individuals, all at various stages of development, it follows that corruption in all its forms is present too.

However, I think it can be said, that corruption has reached proportions which are so unhealthy that they can no longer be ignored and demand a universal response.  What has brought about this unhealthy proportion at this point in history?

The major cause can be possibly be found in the fact that exposure to unhealthy hierarchies has  led to a fear of all hierarchies, a fear of saying that one thing is better than another.  When this idea is perpetuated, society as a whole becomes numbed to the fact that one form of action is better than another and soon anything goes.  The doors are flung open and corruption is quick to make its entry the moment morals exit quietly through the back door.

Differentiation into the four quadrants with the promise of construction has unfortunately become dissociation followed by deconstruction and we are now a turning point in history where what is needed is RECONSTRUCTION.

Robb Smith in his New Year message states, “ I believe that we are desperately seeking to begin embodying a reconstructive narrative but we don’t know en masse how to do so.” He calls on us to “refresh our moral commitment”.

If we are to refresh our moral commitment this New Year we will have to focus on morality, and implicit in the concept of morality is the concept of others – an awareness of us, all of us, all sentient beings.

The “everything goes” mentality of unhealthy green has encouraged narcissism, has encouraged red, and what else is corruption other than an acting out from a point where “I” am the centre of the universe, and “others” unfortunately take a back seat.

An integral life style is one way of combating this tendency within ourselves but with this comes the responsibility to further the “reconstructive narrative”, to consciously create a moral environment which will benefit all.

The leading edge of society needs a new form of vision, a collective consciousness not experienced before in history.

I would like to call this “EAGLE VISION”.

 A handsome bald eagle

The eagle has extremely keen eyesight and can spot objects on the ground from an incredible height.

A collective consciousness, a very special “we-space”, will require us collectively to gain distance from the problems at hand.  This will mean that we will have to create opportunities to open ourselves up as groups to new possibilities and solutions.

The eagle is able to glide for long periods of time without flapping its wings as it hitchhikes a ride on rising currents of air. Haste will not be the order of the day when we exercise our “eagle vision”.

To protect the eyes from injury, the eagle has a third eyelid that it can see through.  This eyelid moves across the eye from side to side as it cleans and moistens the eye.  This for me is reminiscent of the third eye found in the brow chakra, a chakra associated with intuition, clarity and meditation.

This "we-space"  will require a stepping beyond the mind (see the eagle gliding way above), and an entering of the realms of knowledge and wisdom .  What a very special eyesight!
