The Shadow of Online Communication
“C.G. Jung, Twitter and its Shadow” by Heide Kolb presents a fascinating look at the concept of Twitter having a shadow. It contains unanswered questions and much food for thought. I highly recommend reading it.
Heide suggests that we “might want to look at what we project onto Twitter” and makes a number of suggestions.
She also poses the question : “Could one shadow aspect of Twitter be the disintegration of boundaries and the loss of a container for private, sacred space?”
Is it possible that boundaries will disintegrate while we simultaneously maintain a container for private, sacred space?
We can obviously apply all these thoughts not only to Twitter but to all forms of online communication.
What do we project onto our posts here? What shadow aspects of the individual and the collective, are attempting to make themselves known through our interactions in cyberspace? What would an integral approach to these questions be? What message does Hermes, the patron of boundaries and of the travellers who cross them, have for us?
