About Me
I am the founder and co-director of c-Integral, Inc., a non-profit organization that seeks to educate and mentor social change agents from an integral approach to liberation and transformation.
A social justice educator and organizer for more than twenty years, I participate in movements against racism, colonialism, militarism and other forms of oppression. In the early 1990s, I established the Institute for Latino Empowerment, which was dedicated to anti-oppression leadership development and local community organizing in Massachusetts. Upon returning to Puerto Rico in 1997, I co-founded Ilé, Inc., and through ilé: Organizers for Consciousness-in-Action extended this work in communities-of-struggle throughout Puerto Rico and the United States.
Currently, I'm involved in the development of an emerging “integral activism” to which I bring a liberation psychology and spirituality perspective to personal, social, economic, political and cultural transformation.
My Ph.D. is in psychology with a focus on integral, liberation and transformation psychologies. I trained in Psychosynthesis counseling, neurolinguistic programming, and martial and healing arts, and took part in Jean Houston's first Mystery School in 1984. I've been a meditation practitioner for over 30 years.
Author of Consciousness-in-Action: Toward an Integral Psychology of Liberation & Transformation, I have presented the consciousness-in-action approach to audiences internationally. Other of my writings have appeared in academic, spiritual, political, and professional publications. I recently taught a doctoral level course on Oppression, Social Justice and Social Policy at the University of Puerto Rico, Graduate School of Social Work.
A partner, father and grandfather, I live with my family in Cayey, Puerto Rico.
