Can you come up with integral proverbs?

I've been recently considering the power that proverbs have to communicate much weight and wisdom in a compact package and asking myself if I can come up with a set of proverbs that are integrally-inspired.  Can you help?  This could be fun, but I think it's tougher than it looks...

Thanks for playing,

Robb

P.S. My submissions:

To err is divine, to forgive divine, to meta-situate integral

Too many perspectives spoil the view

The ends justify the memes

The way to a man's heart is through his third chakra

Hmmm, they don't quite roll off the tongue :)

Integral proverb

I heard this once a few years ago while working at I-I. I think it deserves to be attributed to Kelly Bearer but I'm having trouble remembering who first said it:

"Integral Monks wear Prada"

New proverbs for an integral age

"We get out of life exactly what we put in - at the gross, subtle and causal level"--

When the seeker is ready to learn, a guru will appear.
When the seeker is ready to learn a smorgasbord will appear
When the seeker is not ready to learn the ego will appear
When the ego is ready to learn source shows up

:) - yes this could be fun!

Thanks so much

Carolyn

PS - Robb - did you get my Twittered suggestion for a sing a long band ? - Not sure if you get replies if you don't follow anyone. My suggestion was Son of Maxwell of "United Breaks Guitars" fame.

When including a bit of developmentalism. . .

The wordsmith in me prefers the word aphorism over the term proverb, especially when each is defined like this:

·         proverb  A short pithy saying in frequent and widespread use that expresses a basic truth or practical precept.

·         aphorism. A tersely phrased statement of a truth or opinion.
·
Here are two old-time favorites, the first applies to early first tier, and the second to later first tier.

·         He who will not see will be made to feel.
·         The wise horse moves at the shadow of the whip
·
And at early second tier, in possible dialogue with later second tier,
·         Where, "Like this."
·         Is supplanted by, "Just like this!"
·
Finally, while wordplay is often fun, it's worth remembering that the word is not the thing.

Warmly,

droll and meaningful

Robb - I like yours because they are meaningful and against the background of the sufficiently evoked original proverb, amusing - both helpful to learning. It does seem to be a challenge to make them roll off the tongue and to make sense enough under the bell-shaped curve of populace normalcy to not be just inside jokes, or to have them appeal and penetrate at enough levels to make them both a smooth wisdom in the mainstream and a stretch.

If it rolls through the chambers of mind too smoothly it could become immediately mainstream with no nip to it.

Roll and droll.

Rolling stones gather no moss.

Drolling proverbs don't gather in suburbs.

Meditate, but don't dissociate

Everyone is right, especially integral.

Pray to God, but make sure you are hitting all four quadrants. (A play on a Russian proverb--pray to God, but keep on rowing to shore.)

Surrender to God, but make sure you are hitting all four quadrants.

Surrender to God, but don't forget that kosmic address.

Surrender to God, but don't forget the three-body workout.

Meditate, but don't dissociate.

100 % wrong

I'm not sure if Wilber came up with this one, but I first heard it from him. I'm sure you are all aware of this one but I think it absolutely belongs on "the list".

"No one is smart enough to be a 100 % wrong"

It always makes the receiver stop for a moment, especially the green meme who assumes the phrase finish with:
"...a 100% right"
