Integral Life, Part Deux

Hi all,

We are beginning to design the second version of Integral Life. Slated for gradual introduction later this year, the new version will hopefullly improve certain aspects of the current version. We've listened to the feedback many people have had on the current version and we were overwhelmed with the positive response we received, but perhaps not surprisingly we are our own worst critics.

Nevertheless, there has been great feedback from the community about improving the integration between content and community, consolidating more activity on to the home page, and moving toward a less "techno-aesthetic." We're also aware that, with the number of features we want the site to handle, we are not making good use of the space we have, so we'll look to simultaneously provide more open space but with more density of activity. New features will also include topic and event-based groups and calendars, and a redesign of the community home page to make it more functional and vibrant. Finally, we are hoping to make the aesthetics cleaner, which will speed up our ability to implement new features and changes (gradients are hell on development cycles!). We read the community comments very carefully looking for ways to improve your experience, so please feel free to let us know how we can do so as we embark on the next version of IL.

Hi Robb,

I just wanted to thank you for your service and work =). IL will not be here w/o you; and I appreciate it.. I'm good with whatever changes; because I'm just grateful to have a community to discuss integral issues; be it virtual or in person.. that being said.. having events listed would be AMAZING; would love to connect ppl in my direct community with others in the integral community in my local community (Toronto-AREA in Canada). That was alot of 'communities' =).

Julius, that's very kind of you, and deeply gratifying. It has been a challenging road, for sure, to resurrect Integral from the tatters it was in a few years ago. But the gratitude really belongs with you and all of the Integral Life members who support our ability to do this work. It is important, even more so when times are chaotic and stressful. So thank you...

I'm glad to be of service =), I'm taking a course from Bill Harris (Creator of Holosync) and one of the tenets that he proposes is saying: "Please and Thank you".. so I'm integrating that concept into my life; and there's no doubt that you've earned it. I never knew that Integral was in tatters a few years ago; so that even makes this accomplishment better!

Anyways, thanks for your reply and you know, maybe you can help me out a little bit. I'm part of this organization called "Humanity Unites Brilliance" (I'm not sure if you've heard of it before -> My name is a link to my page.. It's a network marketing organization; so each person has their own page; etc). But I've been trying to apply integral concepts on its mandate and framework. We want to move 'the world from survival to self-empowerment to sustained abundance'.. and it's game plan is to provide education to its members (in personal development; business development, and humanitarian aid); while using 40% of those funds to partner with non-profits in the areas of food, water, education and micro loans; and since it uses a network marketing model; its members can get financial benefit as well (40%)..

That being said; it does pull on ALOT of heart strings; etc.. but I've been analyzing and wondering for awhile about it from an integral perspective; and wondering how much of 'real' impact can we do in a large scale.. ie.. what's missing in this model; etc.. and can it REALLY move ppl out of poverty; or is it just BOOMERITIS ?

It seems like it is one of the more comprehensive solutions though; focusing on education of its members (so interior quandrants); we also have like meetings; and live conference calls (LL); and it's package of food, water, education and loans (seems pretty good for UR and LR?)..

But it seems to me that if Global change is to happen; HUB would also need the help of governing bodies; business organizations and humanitarian organizations... which might happen as it grows larger. We're already partners with a handful of large non-profits; and personal development people.

It seems to be able to be applicable to different levels of consciousness too, depending on how you market it... egocentric -> financial freedom to do what you want; ethnocentric -> create a community and 'do the right thing'; worldcentric -> by tackling global issues.

I dunno... what do you think? I was also hoping for more 'integral' education there; but the vibe seems more 'new-agey' which is fine in its own right.
