Jean Houston on Edgar Mitchell

 Jean Houston:

I once was hired to help astronauts remember what they saw on the moon.

Edgar Mitchell:

It's not what we saw on the moon that's important...it's what we saw coming back.

Not only this beautiful green marble in the sky, but this Field of Being.

I went to the moon an astronaut. I came back a psycho-naut.

Comments:

I spent a little time with Edgar Mitchell in the 70s. I was a house guest at his home in Florida...i'm sure several lifetimes ago, by either of our standards.

Edgar gave me a private, guided tour through his study...he talked about his experiences, especially the ride home from the moon. To say that there was an other-worldly look in his eyes as he told his story is the best i can do...no, actually, i can do better...Edgar's eyes were bloodshot, and deep, and awesome with the terror of the indescribable. Yet eyes that were haunting in their courage, their radiance...a lifetime memory for me and a still-glowing coal of my emotional history...unforgettable.
