response
Posted May 18th, 2009 by aalferos1. Do you feel confident about your ability to know the truth about global warming?►I have not studied this issue personally, I do believe what others are saying.
2. Do you feel that global warming is a crisis for mankind?►Yes
3. If yes, on a scale of 1-10 with ten being an absolute crisis of the highest order, where do you rate the current state of the crisis?►considering all other crisis...I would have to go with 7
4. Assuming you are not a climatologist, where do you feel one can get the most accurate and objective information about the scientific facts surrounding global warming and the consequences of global warming for mankind? Please identify one source and if you are not sure please indicate this.►Internet research would be my guess - but then I would have to discern who's opinion I could trust...so I would have to say I don't know.
5. Do you feel that we are on the verge of reaching a tipping point, beyond which we will face grave consequences?►I think mankind must change its relationship with the planet or we will in fact destroy our self...I do have faith in people, we will wake up.
6. What are the top 3 ways in which global warming will adversely impact mankind?►I see two sides to this issue; 1 is the probability of disaster 2 is the need to change - life finds a way, its very nature is creative.
7. Do you feel that global warming is the most serious issue immediately facing mankind?►No, but what I fear are those things that we do to solve other serious problems without considering the adverse effects of our planet. We think in terms of materialism and growth - getting more and more is better. We should be thinking in terms of co-existing and nurturing.
8. What steps do you feel should be taken to deal with global warming immediately?►Society does not yet seem ready to deal with this issue from the level that is required to make a difference.
9. Optional (not to put anyone on the spot): if you feel that global warming is an immediate crisis with imminently grave consequences for mankind, do you feel that you are doing all that you could possibly do to participate in averting the crisis?►Yes, it begins with a change in consciousness - we do make a difference by contributing to the Global.
10. What actions do you feel are within the power of one person to contribute to averting the crisis?►I think I already answered this question.

My answers
Posted May 19th, 2009 by Erik Stitt1. Do you feel confident about your ability to know the truth about global warming?
Yes.
2. Do you feel that global warming is a crisis for mankind?
Possibly
3. If yes, on a scale of 1-10 with ten being an absolute crisis of the highest order, where doyou rate the current state of the crisis?
5
4. Assuming you are not a climatologist, where do you feel one can get the most accurate and objective information about the scientific facts surrounding global warming and the consequences of global warming for mankind? Please identify one source and if you are not sure please indicate this.
I get my information from government and NASA sites mainly like NOAA and spaceweather.com and the like. The entire Solar System is heating up. It ain't just us having the fun. Could the Mayans be right? (a little speculative pretrans fun)
5. Do you feel that we are on the verge of reaching a tipping point, beyond which we will face grave consequences?
I have no hard evidence for my answer. I "feel" we collectively are at a point of transformation at the gross, subtle and causal levels as a direct result to being exposed to the dense matter now bombarding our system. Stay positive and detached and maybe you will evolve to adapt to the new prerequisites. Again, I have no evidence for this gut feeling or intuition. It may be all wrong. Pretrans fallacy. Blind hope. Does it matter? Could be a fun ride in any case. Hell. Wake up entirely to oblivion and GAME OVER.
6. What are the top 3 ways in which global warming will adversely impact mankind?
Rising oceans condense boundary lines of nations and impinge humanity's coastal populations. Industry in those populations would be wiped out affecting ecology and economy. Global winter brought about by the eventual clouding over or green house affect (think Venus) would kill everything in this demension as we know it.
7. Do you feel that global warming is the most serious issue immediately facing mankind?
No. Consciously evolving and adapting to the current ecology is.
8. What steps do you feel should be taken to deal with global warming immediately?
Every single problem affecting Mankind at this very moment is due to one thing and one thing only: Overpopulation. Cut our collective breeding in half and we then have enough of everything and then some for all. We about to exceed what the Earth can provide. Especially since some Nations aren't in the good naturedly habit of "sharing" with those less fortunate. Burning grain and feed in excess after quotas are met? Insidious. The steps are obvious. Will we take them? Probably not.
9. Optional (not to put anyone on the spot): if you feel that global warming is an immediate crisis with imminently grave consequences for mankind, do you feel that you are doing all that you could possibly do to participate in averting the crisis?
I do not feel that the warming in and of itself is the issue. Overpopulation is. Is it grave? For mankind maybe but the Earth is just fine.
10. What actions do you feel are within the power of one person to contribute to averting the crisis?
If couples only populated or reproduced just themselves, our global population would be back down to healthy numbers in twenty years I should think (speculative speaking, of course). By reproduce themselves I mean, one child for the father and one child for the mother. These families that have 6, 7 or 10 children I feel are really irresponsible. But then we get into religious implications there don't we? Meh.....I'll be amazed if we evolve any further.

I am not a climatologist but attempt to make informed decisions by looking at as many perspectives as possible that I can find. Most of these I obtain via the internet and by listening to people whose opinions I value.
5. Do you feel that we are on the verge of reaching a tipping point, beyond which we will face grave consequences?
Yes, but I do believe that we still have an opportunity to make amends.
6. What are the top 3 ways in which global warming will adversely impact mankind?
Disruption of the ecosystem, health and economy.
7. Do you feel that global warming is the most serious issue immediately facing mankind?
Yes and No. The importance of making everyone aware of the problem is equally serious.
8. What steps do you feel should be taken to deal with global warming immediately?
Conveying the seriousness of the problem in language aimed at cultural and altitudinal communication.
9. Optional (not to put anyone on the spot): if you feel that global warming is an immediate crisis with imminently grave consequences for mankind, do you feel that you are doing all that you could possibly do to participate in averting the crisis?
No.
10. What actions do you feel are within the power of one person to contribute to averting the crisis?
Become better informed, participate in events at local and if possible national and international levels.

Embrace the horror (Glass half fool)
Posted May 20th, 2009 by barbi hammond1. Do you feel confident about your ability to know the truth about global warming?
Yes, and with every new day I discover something new.
2. Do you feel that global warming is a crisis for mankind?
Yes.
3. If yes, on a scale of 1-10 with ten being an absolute crisis of the highest order, where do you rate the current state of the crisis?
10 = highest order crisis.
10 global warming, 9 deficient consciousness structures (the mythical and mental-rational structures), 8 resource wars/scarcity/water/peak oil, 7 poverty/hunger, 6 overpopulation, 5 economic collapse/nation-state instability, 4 health care crisis/pandemics, 3 education, 2 missing plutonium/nuclear armageddon, 1 a giant wandering wormhole tunnel/asteroid collision.
These are ranked by order of urgency (amount of time left for "time of useful consciousness" to prevent an irreversible "tipping point") and by order of likelihood.
Crises 1 and 2 are obviously the most destructive insofar as their capacity to wipe out all life forms on Earth. However, they are also the most resistant to human response considering that they are currently missing from our inventories and are nowhere to be found for decades. In any event, there's likely not a great deal that we can do if they were to somehow turn up in the wrong hands, the wrong galaxy, and/or wrong orbital path to wipe out life on Earth, anywayz. As such these crises are ranked as lowest of human concerns and are fine, just as they are. In addition, 8 to 5 are arguably far more dire and critical in terms of their immediate threats to humanity compared to the resolution of crisis 9 ("deficient consciousness structure"). But given that voluntary contraception for population control (crisis 6), planetary scarcity and survival issues (10, 8,7,6,5), and transcendence beyond materialism, power, and greed (8, 5) are unlikely to be realized prior to the emergence of a 10% "tipping point" of consciousness into Integral (i.e. resolution of crisis 9), my prediction is that in 20-25 years time, a tipping point will occur in the form of consciousness mutation to second tier Being (resolution to crisis 9) in response to climate change issues. But only if international agreements for mitigation can be mplemented by 2012. Otherwise, a tipping point will occur in the form of a sudden and irreversible catastrophic climate change due to "business as usual" of Doing and Subsisting (unresolved crises 9 and 10). The chances are 50/50. Or maybe 30/70, depending on the accuracy of current global climate models (GCMs), future emissions scenarios, and human nature. Based on current projections, by the next 25 years to a century, planetary survival issues will become the dominant theme of 2nd tier Being to successfully resolve crises 9, 10, 3-8, and every other survival and scarcity issue except perhaps 1 and 2, or humans will be in Hell or High Water by 2100 as a consequence of "business as usual" scenarios of "Doing and Subsisting.".
4. Assuming you are not a climatologist, where do you feel one can get the most accurate and objective information about the scientific facts surrounding global warming and the consequences of global warming for mankind? Please identify one source and if you are not sure please indicate this.
It depends on the person who is making the inquiry. Some are not convinced that it is science or are not fully differentiated between the three "T's." So here are several sources. I've leave it to the discretion of the reader to select the most appropriate source for themselves:
If you are confused whether to refer to climate change as weather forecasts, science, a new religion, or a political ideology, I would highly recommend starting here (slightly dated, yet highly relevant):
The Denial Machine (2006, 40 min., video)
For a healthy Green conservative website that advocates sound environmental policies, strong economy, and scientific integrity, you may want to start here:
Republicans for Environmental Protection
5. Do you feel that we are on the verge of reaching a tipping point, beyond which we will face grave consequences?
Yes.
6. What are the top 3 ways in which global warming will adversely impact mankind?
- Sea level rise/climate change refugees from developing low-lying countries to Northern latitudes in early to mid 21st century.
- Glacial melt, loss of drinking water, extreme conditions (i.e. desertification or high humidity), crop failures, more sea level rise through 21st century, and resource wars.
- By 2100, continued sea rise, water and food shortages, all humans on Earth will be adversely affected if we remain on our current CO2 emissions trajectory.
7. Do you feel that global warming is the most serious issue immediately facing mankind?
Yes.
8. What steps do you feel should be taken to deal with global warming immediately?
Educate yourself on science, beware of scientific disinformation, support climate change legislation, and support international agreements. The only kind that of legislation that will work is the kind which will put a ceiling on carbon emissions to set international standards. CO2 will have to be reduced to 350-450 ppm by 2050 (some suggest sooner). Current Vital Statistic for CO2 (according to NASA link above) is 389 ppm, so up 2 ppm from the past few weeks..
9. Optional (not to put anyone on the spot): if you feel that global warming is an immediate crisis with imminently grave consequences for mankind, do you feel that you are doing all that you could possibly do to participate in averting the crisis?
I think I am, but I could definitely do more.
10. What actions do you feel are within the power of one person to contribute to averting the crisis?
Self-education. Embrace the horror (Glass half fool)

You LOSE! You get NOTHING. Just a dot (.)!
Posted July 2nd, 2009 by barbi hammondI thought you might find this info handy. I watched it on the Scientific Channel in March 2007:
"The Last Days [? I think the name of it],"Discovery Channel or History International Channel later that day
This is a documentary about the seven most deadly threats that could lead to Armageddon or the end of humanity; presented from least to most likely; so the order WAS reversed from your (Schalk's--if he's still here) set-up. In compliance I have gone back to change the ordering to make them compatible with Schalk's rating system with highest number being the the most serious threat to humanity and lowest number, "1," being the least threatening (there were only 7 threats presented in the documentary)..
Mind you this was not my personal assessment but are the expert opinions of distinguished scientists, panelists, and noted personalities such as Stephen Hawking, Michio Kaku, Al Gore, and others. Feel free (if you've responded) to compare your results with the experts. I think that my threats line up closest to expert opinions so guess what?
I WIN! (insofar as offering the most expert opinion of all respondents).
Or pessimistically--You LOSE! You get NOTHING. Just a dot (.)! i said, YOU LOSE! Good DAY, Sir!
It's all there, black and white. Clear as crystal. And red.
I was wondering why Schalk Schalk placed a dot (.) for the thread title. I thought he was trying to make a statement in protest of something he found revolting or disturbing. Now it all makes perfect sense to me. He unwittingly anticipated my delayed response which was intended to be numbered in numeric sequence from lowest to highest threat as he had requested using the Insert/Remove Numbered List key above the field but it didn't work. Only the Dots/Bulleted List worked (.); so I typed the numbers manually above each bullet.
>Dot 1 (lowest threat).
- Bursts of nuclear gamma ray radiation (death of a star); has not occurred within range of earth since beginning of earth 4.5 b.y.ago; not likely to occur in our lifetime but considered most lethal; chance of survival is 0% fir all life forms should it occur
"Oh, so you want words? OK."

- Wandering Black Holes - invisible trails travelling at thousands of miles per second throughout the universe and devouring everything in its path;
Dot 3.- Supervolcanoes; last occurrence 72,000 years ago in Toba resulting in near-extinction of humans; impact of supervolcanoes is global and catastrophic and results iin atmospheric and weather changes globally
- Asteroid or chunck of rock enters and dips below satellite systems of earth on April 13, 2029; possible collision or near-collision on Apr. 13, 2036 as it returns 7 years later unless thwarted off course;
- Nuclear attack of a piece of sun that is duplicated on the earth;
- Pandemics:
Man-made Climate Changes

Dot 4.
Dot 5.
between Russia and U.S.A alone there are thousands of weapons equivalent to 80,000 Hiroshima bombs;
U.S. military is currently developing weapons that are programmed to self-activate without human intervention
war most likely to be triggered by human acccident or misinterpretation;
"I SAID LUNCH, NOT LAUNCH!"

possible survivors - microbes that are currently deep beneath the earth's surface
Dot 6.
Bioengineering sophisticated genetic engineering; possibly triggered by next human who has mandate from God to develop a virus and then release it into the human population;

Incubation period of pathogens 3-6 weeks; takes six months to develop vaccine so would create a global infection

Spring time earlier; climate changes worldwide; 8 inches of sea rise observed in recent years; scientists recorded in 2005 that chunks of Greenland are currently falling off into the ocean at alarming rate as a consequence of rising temperatures; occurring in other Arctic regions melting; C02output into atmosphere by consumption of fossil fuels thought to be the culprit; level of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere has skyrocketed since 1900, according to scientific records; no credible debate exists over the possible nonexistence of of global wwrming; is alreaedy occurring; disinformation by pseudo-scientists funded by coal and oil companies and big business; parts of West Antarctica and Greenland expected to fall into the ocean and causing a 3-6 meter or higher. rise in sea level witniin the next 50-100 years (2007 est.?) resulting in many regions such as the UK, Netherlands, South Florida, parts of Manhattan, and many other reagions unless radical changes in consumption of fossl fuels; Once Greenland and polar regions arecompletely submerged may trigger global mass migrations, pestilences, and no drinking water for millions; next war may be over water, not oil;

My conclusion:
I attended my sister's church that day out of curiosity and to spend time with my son. The sermon of the day was about how the poor in spirit and meek shall inherit the Earth. My sister, who was a member of the same church (Northside Baptist Church), informed me that I was wrong for thinking that the preacher was talking about me when I excitedly but also jokingly told her that I thought he was talking about "me" inheriting the Earth. She argued (seriously) that he was talking about her instead, even though her husband is an attorney and very well off and drives a gigantic SUV and bought her a gigantic SUV, too.. She said it wasn't about the money but about the soul. So essentially she was telling me that You LOSE! You get NOTHING. Not even the Earth, Good DAY, SIR!.
Not that she's "evil" or anything; she just doesn't get into the Discovery Channel. So here is my prediction:
Blessed are the microbes who are meek and poor in spirit and currently buried deep beneath the surface of the earth...

My vote
Posted May 18th, 2009 by Brian OConnell1.No, (What is the truth of global warming?) I am confident in knowing the untruth of global warming. True global warming and the science that can scientifically express that truth has not happened yet.)
2. Yes
3. 1
4. The scientist who started the movement itself back in the 60's and 70's. Like Dr Morner and Dyson Freeman
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/christopherbooker/5067351/Rise-of-sea-levels-is-the-greatest-lie-ever-told.html#comments
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/29/magazine/29Dyson-t.html?pagewanted=1&_r=2&ref=WRH
5.No, on an environment tipping point. political tipping point, YES.
6.Carbon tax, global fascistic government, starvation do to global policy( IMF, World bank,etc)
7. Nooooooooooo
8. Reducing aresols and paticulates like sulfur dioxide and dust. Not CO2
9. Not in the crisis mode
10. Contacting your representatives to inform them that it is not OK to make global governance under the umbrella of global warming fears and the (manafactured) economic crisis. Getting your representative to back the audit of the FED bank and try to get the Fed bank back into the government. Stop paying personal income taxes. To not submit to maritime law and uphold personal(natural) law, (think Ghandi). And to support new energy souces that radically change civilization( Wind, Solar, are way to weak.) Something like this company www.blacklightpower.com . Work for a pluralistic decentralized monetary system. Help your local police and fireman to know its rights under the constitution and their duty to protect the constitution. I could go on and on. This should be enough for now.
