EFT and Post-metaphysics

I just learned of EFT through your posts.  I agree with you that it sounds suspect.  But I don't agree that this is the "result" of post-metaphysics.  I don't think most people even understand post-metaphysics.  A lot of "New Age relativism" is actually an odd wedding of a certain relativistic principles with a magical-level metaphysics (or a quasi-scientific Orange reading of Green/post-Green claims, which ends up looking "magical").  Calling that "post-metaphysics" is a pre-trans fallacy and shoots an arrow through what is potentially a powerful understanding rather than actually addressing the problem at the level it is manifesting.

On the subject of EFT and mind/body interface, I just posted this article to my Integral Post-metaphysical Spirituality forum, if you're interested:  Meaning and the History of the Body: Toward a Postmodern Medicine.

Integral Rhetoric

Schalk, yes, I agree that there is indeed a need for integrity in our discourse and our presentation of spiritual claims, etc, and that Integral has the potential to contribute positively to this.

On a Gaia forum I cultivate, one member has posted a thread recently which I think is quite relevant to your concerns:

"Integral" Rhetoric - Why It Matters

EFT

Well, coincidently, I was at an EFT workshop this week, two days, total cost including snacks, $150, and I have been listening to the EFT world summit, for FREE on the internet everyday.... EFT is about the most ridiculously simple thing I have heard about, and the manual can be down loaded for FREE from Garry Craig's EMOFREE.com... and strangely, I feel fantastic today....

There is a bit of hype about the EFT products of the Summit... $197 for the premium package.... not unlike the ILP kit which I was pretty skeptical about.... and I wrote to the organizers and told them I can't stand that sales pitch crap.

But really surprisingly, this makes sense to me.  I have just been in Integral Bodywork Therapy/Practicum for two years, and I am very grateful for that too.... yet in a simple two minute session with EFT, which I did not have to explain to anyone about what the details were, I realized how I am frightened of having the experience of loving deeply, because I am/have been deeply afraid of losing love....and this message has been been authoring my life since the beginning of my life.... and I can change this....

Now, I would be the first one to say, this simply revelation may seem hokey, and I might wake up in couple of days and think, boy-oh-boy, I need deprogramming....so I will let you know.....but right now, from my 1P place....I love EFT!

And what the heck, Schaulk just described how to do it....so try it out... it looks about as free as it can get.....

Interfaith dialogue

Bruce, I'm kind of surprised you would respond this way given the blogs and posts you've written about interfaith dialogue and Raimon Panikkar.

You once posted the Dialogue Decalogue from the Global Dialogue Institute, and it was in that spirit that I offered those links on the other thread. Here are the ten commandments of the Dialogue Decalogue that you posted (Schalk, I also think these commandments are complimentary with the kind of dialogue you used to talk about at the Multiplex):

FIRST COMMANDMENT: The primary purpose of dialogue is to learn, that is, to change and grow in the perception and understanding of reality, and then to act accordingly. Minimally, the very fact that I learn that my dialogue partner believes "this" rather than "that" proportionally changes my attitude toward her; and a change in my attitude is a significant change in me. We enter into dialogue so that we can learn, change, and grow, not so we can force change on the other, as one hopes to do in debate--a hope realized in inverse proportion to the frequency and ferocity with which debate is entered into. On the other hand, because in dialogue each partner comes with the intention of learning and changing herself, one's partner in fact will also change. Thus the goal of debate, and much more, is accomplished far more effectively by dialogue.

SECOND COMMANDMENT: Interreligious, interideological dialogue must be a two-sided project--within each religious or ideological community and between religious or ideological communities. Because of the "corporate" nature of interreligious dialogue, and since the primary goal of dialogue is that each partner learn and change himself, it is also necessary that each participant enter into dialogue not only with his partner across the faith line--the Lutheran with the Anglican, for example--but also with his coreligionists, with his fellow Lutherans, to share with them the fruits of the interreligious dialogue. Only thus can the whole community eventually learn and change, moving toward an ever more perceptive insight into reality.

THIRD COMMANDMENT: Each participant must come to the dialogue with complete honesty and sincerity. It should be made clear in what direction the major and minor thrusts of the tradition move, what the future shifts might be, and, if necessary, where the participant has difficulties with her own tradition. No false fronts have any place in dialogue.

Conversely--each participant must assume a similar complete honesty and sincerity in the other partners. Not only will the absence of sincerity prevent dialogue from happening, but the absence of the assumption of the partner's sincerity will do so as well. In brief: no trust, no dialogue.

FOURTH COMMANDMENT: In interreligious, interideological dialogue we must not compare our ideals with our partner's practice, but rather our ideals with our partner's ideals, our practice with our partner's practice.

FIFTH COMMANDMENT: Each participant must define himself. Only the Jew, for example, can define what it means to be a Jew. The rest can only describe what it looks like from the outside. Moreover, because dialogue is a dynamic medium, as each participant learns, he will change and hence continually deepen, expand, and modify his self-definition as a Jew--being careful to remain in constant dialogue with fellow Jews. Thus it is mandatory that each dialogue partner define what it means to be an authentic member of his own tradition.

Conversely--the one interpreted must be able to recognize herself in the interpretation. This is the golden rule of interreligious hermeneutics, as has been often reiterated by the "apostle of interreligious dialogue," Raimundo Panikkar. For the sake of understanding, each dialogue participant will naturally attempt to express for herself what she thinks is the meaning of the partner's statement; the partner must be able to recognize herself in that expression. The advocate of "a world theology," Wilfred Cantwell Smith, would add that the expression must also be verifiable by critical observers who are not involved.

SIXTH COMMANDMENT: Each participant must come to the dialogue with no hard-and-fast assumptions as to where the points of disagreement are. Rather, each partner should not only listen to the other partner with openness and sympathy but also attempt to agree with the dialogue partner as far as is possible while still maintaining integrity with his own tradition; where he absolutely can agree no further without violating his own integrity, precisely there is the real point of disagreement--which most often turns out to be different from the point of disagreement that was falsely assumed ahead of time.

SEVENTH COMMANDMENT: Dialogue can take place only between equals, or par cum pari as the Second Vatican Council put it. Both must come to learn from each other. Therefore, if, for example, the Muslim views Hinduism as inferior, or if the Hindu views Islam as inferior, there will be no dialogue. If authentic interreligious, interideological dialogue between Muslims and Hindus is to occur, then both the Muslim and the Hindu must come mainly to learn from each other; only then will it be "equal with equal," par cum pari. This rule also indicates that there can be no such thing as a one-way dialogue. For example, Jewish-Christian discussions begun in the 1960s were mainly only prolegomena to inter- religious dialogue. Understandably and properly, the Jews came to these exchanges only to teach Christians, although the Christians came mainly to learn. But, if authentic interreligious dialogue between Christians and Jews is to occur, then the Jews must also come mainly to learn; only then will it too be par cum pari.

EIGHTH COMMANDMENT: Dialogue can take place only on the basis of mutual trust. Although interreligious, interideological dialogue must occur with some kind of "corporate" dimension, that is, the participants must be involved as members of a religious or ideological community--for instance, as Marxists or Taoists--it is also fundamentally true that it is only persons who can enter into dialogue. But a dialogue among persons can be built only on personal trust. Hence it is wise not to tackle the most difficult problems in the beginning, but rather to approach first those issues most likely to provide some common ground, thereby establishing the basis of human trust. Then, gradually, as this personal trust deepens and expands, the more thorny matters can be undertaken. Thus, as in learning we move from the known to the unknown, so in dialogue we proceed from commonly held matters--which, given our mutual ignorance resulting from centuries of hostility, will take us quite some time to discover fully--to discuss matters of disagreement.

NINTH COMMANDMENT: Persons entering into interreligious, interideological dialogue must be at least minimally self-critical of both themselves and their own religious or ideological traditions. A lack of such self-criticism implies that one's own tradition already has all the correct answers. Such an attitude makes dialogue not only unnecessary, but even impossible, since we enter into dialogue primarily so we can learn--which obviously is impossible if our tradition has never made a misstep, if it has all the right answers. To be sure, in interreligious, interideological dialogue one must stand within a religious or ideological tradition with integrity and conviction, but such integrity and conviction must include, not exclude, a healthy self-criticism. Without it there can be no dialogue--and, indeed, no integrity.

TENTH COMMANDMENT: Each participant eventually must attempt to experience the partner's religion or ideology "from within"; for a religion or ideology is not merely something of the head, but also of the spirit, heart, and "whole being," individual and communal. John Dunne here speaks of "passing over" into another's religious or ideological experience and then coming back enlightened, broadened, and deepened. As Raimundo Panikkar notes, "To know what a religion says, we must understand what it says, but for this we must somehow believe in what it says": for example, "A Christian will never fully understand Hinduism if he is not, in one way or another, converted to Hinduism. Nor will a Hindu ever fully understand Christianity unless he, in one way or another, becomes Christian."

Re: Interfaith Dialogue

Hi, David, I don't think I came across any links you posted recently, but I think you're probably right that my response now is somewhat out of step with my professed principles.  I admit I have a lingering distrust of Cohen, in spite of the good material that I recognize he also offers, and that has influenced my response.  But I recognize there are people who are seriously dedicated to his path and who get value out of it, so if I entered into a discussion with a follower of Cohen (like you!), I would try to do so respectfully -- since I believe you have benefitted from it.  I do think there is truth to Schalk's analysis above (he is basically outlining recruiting techniques common to a number of religious teachings), which is what made it funny to me, but I don't think it's the whole truth.  For instance, it seems clear to me that a number of Christian teachers and institutions have sometimes used a similar approach to recruit believers, but that doesn't invalidate Christianity.

Best wishes,

B.

everybody is right!

Hi Bruce,

Thank you for that response. I acknowledge your points there.

My only amendment would be that I wouldn't quite describe myself as "a follower of Cohen," though he has helped me a great deal, I believe, and I look forward to what he will come out with in the future.

Best,

David

2 Laughs and a Request

Schalk et al. --

I'm laughing twice at this thread.

First because your post was very funny, and it reminded me of when New Age authors have told Ken that they want to stay out of the Appendix of his next book, because in Appendix III of Integral Spirituality he really dissects them.  I kept thinking to myself: "I want Integral Life to stay out of Schalk's Appendix!"  Still has me laughing...

Second, I'm also laughing because I'm imagining your reaction of the web event that EnlightenNext is putting on with Andrew and Ken on May 9 and which we announce to the community tomorrow about "living an evolutionary and integral life." This one just makes me chuckle in anticipation of your reaction...

But seriously, although I think your critique is full of holes, you also know from our other communication that I believe there is some partial truth in it, too.  The enterprising that is going on in the name of spiritual growth is pretty rampant; the rub is I'm sure it's a mixed blessing from an evolutionary perspective.  But my serious request - perhaps even challenge - would be: could you really codify an integrally-robust standards manifesto that would satisfy your critique?  We've sometimes thought about Integral Life becoming the "McKinsey of human development" (that was much more impressive 2 years ago, by the way!) and so consider me an integrating machine, willing to learn and feedback wisdom from the community back into the evolving holonic ecosystem that Integral Life represents.  In short, let's see where this goes.

Bravo!

Schalk, Bravo! That's brilliant, did you have it laying around? I thought it would take you at least more than a day!  :)

I will admit to you that this kind of standards body is something I have considered forming.  I have had several professional certifications in my life (e.g., Certified Management Accountant; don't ask...) and appreciate the rigor and quality of a good certifying body.  You might know that there is a certifying body for the coaching industry (International Coach Federation) but I wouldn't offer an opinion on the rigor of that particular body.

I think there are provisions in your proposal here that are apt for a food-fight, you run into IMP data problems. Said differently, you're really asking for an integral methodological pluralism to be fully functioning to pull this off fairly.  You need all 3 Habermasian validity claims to do so.

There are of course real world constraints, too, like who pays for all of this work to be done? The open market is a reasonably decent judge of efficacy, though perhaps not ethics, over the long-run because if I'm not getting value out of something I stop paying for it.  In a sense this is the ultimate IMP, no?  (I get that it doesn't address what happens before the sale relationship, which is where an Amazon like review system is really wonderful...)  So perhaps where I differ from you, or maybe not, is I believe in people making the right choice for them and that these choices, when aggregated, will tell us something about the social utility, in dollar terms, of the service in question.

I've also watched as police bodies eat themselves as they fall prey to the same power dynamics inherent in any social holon, and they end up as much harm as help.

This is a fun conversation though, and important. Thanks for continuing it.

Sounds Socialistic unless...

Schalk -

I like this only if it is used as a guideline for a non-profit review board, otherwise it threatens free market capitalism by smacking of centralized big government telling me what to do and that's a no-no in my book.  However, this review board would use this guideline to review popular schools and teachers using the criteria as laid out in similar fashion to yours.  I think, used in that regard, it is nothing less than a brilliant idea.  If made a government regulatory item which I will pay for with higher taxes even if I don't give two wet slaps about enlightenment, is invasive.  People must be allowed the freedom to be as stupid as they like so long as they are not infringing on the freedom of another.  Cohen is not infringing on anyone's freedom.  Right or wrong.  Vague or detailed.  If what he is marketing sounds good to Joe Schmoe, Schmoe has a right to by it.  Stupid or not.  Ain't capitalism grand?

My best aperspectival response with all of it's pathology and...

Good morning, Schalk -

It was most kind of you to reply to my response.  I have enjoyed it and it has given me much to ruminate on.  Again, most kind.

My response to this is very broad spectrum in that it's range goes from egoic, at which it takes the viewpoint of the individual named Erik and his perceived uniqueness, to Non-Dual at which it is just the Witness and all that is arising and falling within it.  Here goes:

Erik's view (physical view/earth-based)

From my research and study into that which is uniquely human, (history, geneology, anthropology, psychology, sociology) it has come to my awareness numerous times that there within societies of all types exists charlatans and snake-oil merchants preying upon the ignorance of a perspective buyer/consumer.  Is it morally correct? Obviously not.  Ethically?  Maybe.  The merchant may be a very dilligent and work-oriented fellow.  What's more is that he/she may well indeed believe in his/her own product.  Hmmm..(Does Cohen believe in his product?  Do you know?  Can you prove that he does or doesn't?) It's very curious thing, but when looked at objectively and with no tinted glasses of fear or adoration, we see that in and of itself, the product is harmless.

So then we look at the other half of the equation; the purchaser, the client, the consumer.  Did he/she do his/her research?  Is the education of this person a societal responsibility?  An emphatic and resounding "NO!".  This is where I have a bit of a problem saying that this isn't government oriented.  It still smacks of telling me what to do.  It still rings of not letting me decide for myself what is right and what is wrong.  This smells like fear.  Fear is a very personal and intimate pathology.  It originates within the perceiver and ends in same said perceiver.  Fears, at a government level, are best dealt with lightly.  In other words, a government exists to protect the borders of it's citizenry from outside violence and invasion.  Within the citizenry, the government protects and upholds basic existential rights.  In other words, you are free to do anything you want and desire as long as it does not infringe upon the existential rights of another.  What a person is selling (from esoterica to toilet paper) does not infringe upon the customer's existential rights.  What the consumer purchases and again, believes about the purchased item can be both liberating and enslaving.  It is therefore in the consumer's hand of responsibility to become aware of the product and comparison shop for the best quality.  This creates competition and competition creates quality as well as security.  Supply is always dictated by demand and even then I am still able to be as frivolous and stupid as I want.  You yourself are allowed to pity my squandering or to exalt it.  You either agree with the good value I judged to find in my purchase or you find it repugnant.  Perhaps, better still you have taken to minding your own business and have a healthy level of apathy and could give a flying shit about what I buy!  That's the best scenario in my humble opinion.

We are not here to hold each others' hands unless we want to hold your dang hand and you want it held.  You fly from, walk from or fall from the comfort and security of Mommy and Daddy's embrace to brave the world ON  YOUR OWN.  You came into it alone and in pain and you will leave it alone and in pain.  No one can share these experiences with you.  You alone are having them.....alone.

Social View

No charity, belief system, club, clique, or other some such social venue of gathering should be regulated by government.  Ever!  If there is enough collective and resonating concern within a common-thinking pool or body of citizenry about a common subject or collective action,  then they can form a non-profit regulatory commission or sanctuary or coallition for those that find guidance in such things.  And it is all guidance.  No dictates allowed here.  Again, absolute liberty and freedom.  I think this is a scary concept to a lot of people.  They seem fearful of the concept of "no one there for them but them".  No hand out.  No freebie.  No unending gratuity.  The whole beautiful mechanism of pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps and making something of your "self" seems rather daunting to more and more people.  Shame.  Because if you cannot handle absolute freedom in the physical and illusory realm, how the hell do you expect to re-cognize it as the always/already, ever-present, stateless state of your Being the Witness?!  Hmmm...  Quite a quandry, isn't it?

Spiritual View

As we can see, physical existence can be a scary and solitairy affair.  You come in alone, and you leave alone. No matter how many manuals of instruction or gurus, seikhs, priests, prophets, healers or other some such tell us about these very natural and very real phenomena, you still do it alone with no concept of what to expect. Nobody knows the punchline until they get there.  Anybody who says otherwise is under the heavy auspices and burdens of proof.  Build your bravery, courage and strength in this and you will be fine.

As is inherently obvious to me and perhaps to a lot of folks, belief systems evolved out of the very simple fear of death and the unknown.  What happens?  Where do I go?  Is there any residual existence with the name Erik at an individual level that passes on into a non-temporal and non-corporeally continued existence?  Does it matter?.......Does it matter?..........Hmmm....Egoically, hell yes it matters!  I am important dammit!  I learned some valuable things in my brief time as a body and I need to share them in a safe, cozy and secure environment with others that must know!  Why?..........Why?.........On the dark side of Pluto, what grain of sand knows of Erik?  What proposed entity of sentients on a planet orbiting Alpha Centauri knows of Schalk?  Why the hell would he care?  What bearing of importance do we have in the great scheme of things?  Very little.  So we look inside for comfort and reason.  Not outside.  We look inside into the places that are scarier than anything external for it is the familiarity with the fear on the inside which labels all external fears.  At first the stillness is disconcerting.  I read about it in books.  I studied. I listen to teachers.  I researched numerous sources that I purchased willfully of my own accord without any one or any thing telling me not to or to do so.  I bade purchase with the same unknowing about birth and death as the material that claims to know of birth and death and I did so with the comfort of knowing that I was free to do so based on what ever level of current understanding I had at the time.  Would I purchase some of this material now?  No.  I have grown and evolved and generally moved on from that level of understanding.  However, I was not guaranteed that what I read was significant, truthful, factual or relevant in any way, shape or form.  I relied on my judgement.  Not yours or anybody else's and yet I am by all means seemingly fine and generally unfettered without having to hold anybody's hand.

In short, courage, bravery, perserverance and the willingness to accept that not only are you nothing, you know nothing as well, are all that is needed to get through life.  Period.  There is nothing to know.  And if you don't get it?  That doesn't matter either.  Everything is exactly perfect.  Don't mess!

In Loving Abundance,

Erik

The Three Coin Method?

Hi Schalk,

Schalk: I hope that what he comes out with in the future includes a more coherent discussion of .. what evolutionary enlightenment is. And ... how his helping me ... enter states ... relates to that (e.g. stage enlightenment).

There's already a lot of material out on that. The best place to look is the guru-and-pandit discussions. There's a lot of material there, but it is really worth it. Honestly, it's one of the best sources for Ken's work. I think you get a view on his work in those discussions that you really don't get anywhere else.

How about going through the guru-and-pandit discussions and giving us a report on each one?

Schalk: I found Cohen's 5 Tenets of Enlightenment to be utter hogwash. I hope you have time to respond to my comments there.

Well, you said, "I think that anyone who feels a nudge to ... step out and take the spiritual podium ... needs to follow these tenets."

So, that sounds fine to me. It sounds like you see some merit in them.

Schalk: Tell me ... what exactly helps me to know whether Cohen's product is right for me?

Well, I know how you love all the Chinese stuff. How about the I-Ching?

Brief History of Enlightennext

Schalk,

Curious to hear your thoughts on this talk with two from the ElightenNext community. I think it to some extent goes to the heart of your inquiry if there is anything of substance to the notions within that community. I'll let you be the judge on it and get back to me on your thoughts about it. Here it is. Righto

You make some great points Schalk.

I agree with you in particular on the following point: By moving the attention away from the individual to the group, a real danger arises for group-think. Notions that contradict the guiding voice of the collective (in this case Andrew @ EnlightenNext) can often easily be negated. If I argued in front of others in that group that Andrew was mistaken on a point I know I would have in a sense a dual hurdle [1) my point itself and 2) the trust people have in Andrew (which maybe is justified). Although, as integral teaches us the LL is always impacting our choices just probably to a larger extent in a community like EnlightenNext... but you can even feel that pull here and it is something we can now remain aware of. But it is true although I have a great deal of trust in Wilber (& I think it is mostly justified) I have no way of really knowing his interiors... as I'm not deeply psychic... so I could be wrong. On a side note I am deeply grateful for what he has done. But you point out and I think rightly, Wilber has brought to the table a lot of sophistication in the UR which isn't always so present with Cohen. So, warning bells go off for me too when I think about that fact.

But now let me respond a little more directly to your comments. So, I am not here to really defend these guys..., I have a bit of a feeling in certain ways there is something a little "crook in Melswellbrook"  I too just want to know their intentions. But I also think they might have something to offer. So in 1) you raise the point that Andrew is pulling these tricks for profit...

I have no doubt there is a profit element to this. Which in itself I personally am not against so long as one is really getting something for the dollar they spend... and it ought not be simple emotional-boosting, as that is as you point out, in fact, doing a double dis-service when its under the label of spirituality. On one level, its taking advantage of others for profit by means of complex wordplay and on an even deeper level its going to further push ideas of spirit away from the mainstream (as it acts as another exemplar of lies and deceit within so-called spiritual communities). However, because I have never attended I can't comment on whether or not something really profound happens at his meetings that really is pushing spirit-in-action forward as he claims. So, for your first point I think I must remain mostly agnostic.

2) Regarding your second point about Integral offering truly novel things & EnlightenNext not offering truly new things. I agree, but disagree I think the point you raise about Ken grounding things in the 3rd person UR comes into play here. With Andrew I don't see him do as much of that. The magazine however has a really strong hermeneutical aspect to it they talk with many different people (a lot of which are respected academics) and they generate interpretations from the talks. There are not many truly new ideas coming from the magazine, but there is I'd say a good degree of synthesis going on (due to the vastly different kinds of people they converse with). And because Cohen is so central to this magazine I think it at least could be a partial reflection of his nature. So for me, I tend to think yes and no to this point.

One final remark... the end of the talk I posted for you they talk about how they switched their method in 2001. (If there is anything actually going on that is worth our attention this is what they say is truly noteworthy). They say around that time they started to have experiences of collective consciousness; guided by the Kosmos or the impulse behind evolution. So that one has a direct experience within a kind of collective consciousness landscape of the desires of God to create the future. I don't know if I'm getting this exactly right, but I think that's roughly what they are saying.

Anyway, let me know what you think.

No money no audience

If you have a suggestion for how to help with money, then must always look at it without money.. Everything needs to be viewed in this way. The creation of money, there was a purpose to be fullfilled,, It was an idea.. "the unmanifested/formless (right hemisphere, or so to relate). All things that come are meant to be understood, and then must pass. If not, there will be suffering.

"I wish to make miracles" DaVinci

When people like this say something, it happens they don't understand it, but they are not meant to, it is not for them. The most genius things done were not planned, if they were they did harm in some way.

-----

This is where Genius comes in. There are a million things I cannot say and others could not. This is the pain of those who are referred to as Genius's face... Jesus, he was in more pain before he was on the cross. Believe me.. I knew of his betrayal before I knew the story. I just understood him without dissecting.. I have understood this one and many others, and it is very aggrivated to see that no one has pivked up where he left off. A cause does not die.

I may come off as funny or childish, or insane, but it is the only way. Only the faithful can handle it. I have feared myself since I was 15. I spent 8 years telling myself what I have came to understand was not true. I have never had the will to live because of this. There are others I see who have been where I am, today, and they did not make it because they could not see past themselves.. Why me god? Why not? a funny one... At every threshold of pain I face comes a new found character, someone to help me. But also their cause. This is all I can do in any given day. My mother has now come to understand, so I have no choice. I need your help all of you.

You have no idea how much that one got me... Good one.. I laughed so hard I barely respond... THen u keep push and push.. Hail Mary. Touch DOwn..

I can't go into details with what I do, and I cannot conclude... I can only provide forward momentum, i don't know if I can tell you why, because in part, it is a question of my faith in thee... Thou and Thee... THere is a sense to this, which applies the heart and belief or faith... if saqid You, it is a bit unclear... There are so many common sense shit that doesnt make sense and alays gets in the way.

The schizophrenic intuitive boundary of someone who wants to solve World Peace... There is a reason for this...

HUmans have not really even begun to live. All oher life works as one with life. BEcause of our insecurities it makes it hard to do this. This is the beauty that overwhelms me.. I see so much that I fear I may never be able to be a parrt of. A lot of what I right I am fighting that part of me that has not wanted to live, and all the time and pain caused to my loved ones. All the ides that could change the world that I spent 24/7 researching... All the rest of the time just helping people... I have had to face the adversity of every person I have ever met. This Ego, is a sense to me. Their are very few that donnot have it... All adults do and these people are half dead, and completely predicatble, to some degree.. But the innocent.. All I can do is wonder, and can say nothing... They are just one with life, and I can't even feel envy or jealousy... When I see a flock of birds, move like water through a tunnel I feel a deep sense of deprivation yet beauty at the same time... That, in it self, I would give every last inch for that. I extend my mothers love to all, even the worst...

You have to think about what I have written, as a game, a movie, a joke.. whatever... But always be disciplining yourself.. ALlow yourself to make mistakes with a typo or coming off as wrong.. In forgiveness, their is humor in embarrassment.... like some say "cock balls" It is not attracive at all at makes ppl feel awkward. So you just embarrass them, in the slight bit of character to connect to them, so they inuitively will come to see how to gt past that road.. Just start swearing let go... faggots, bitches,.,... go do my work.. Now what do u say to this? find out how to embarrass me or dsomething.. IThese women get me good, but these men, aside fromthis shalk shalk fella, have trouble... The gender imbalance in soiety makes woman more understanding...

A Suprise!

True Empowerment or Enlightenment, so to say and not really know the details of this term, so that the Shadows of Judgement, do not swim in these waters. The test of Faith, is what you make it. I choose to believe that I need nothing, and be nowhere, for I know all that I have, and the God given choices with all I have. To endlessly give, and believe no matter the costs. I live in the murky waters of sorrow for I forbid myself to touch life, and what little I get, I always stay below to help another up...

If you can swim in my waters, and make it out, we shall see......

I am afraid of this One.. Papa? come with me? we swim?!

That's hilarious

Schalk, you got my personal award for the funniest post I've seen in a long time.  This reply to Autonomy is hilarious, I think you've said what most of us just feel and keep to ourselves.  That's awesome.

I don't have much to offer for this fine honor of wit, but if you want to PM your address to me (and name) and any book we publish or KW has written, I'll ask him to sign it and send it to you.  (If you want.)

I'm still laughing... :)

I dunno Schalk

To be honest... After looking at Robb SMith's post, I am honestly speechless.... I will have to take some time to really think about this. I have nothing against this Robb Smith, but I could tell by his picture he has very little patience, and gets frustrated often. As well as, some stubborness. I would assume a tendency to lose it.. Perhaps put things before his family... What has happened jsut now, concerns me more than anything else.

" " Third " "

However clever you may think you may be (e).. It is never clever enough for me.. I see your ripples in my waters..... I wonder if we just used some keywords in our posts. To symbolize some needs.. So that while we are writing, we can just put something in, for the Dolphins to come and feed.... or something.... Or how about Editing our writing, that some other members may enjoy doing while reading.. This would be a EXCELLENT IDEA!! Working together always Under-Standing, while understanding.. Life Inspires Life... A Flock of Seagulls, their leadership attitude.... The Eagle Eye, shall always reveal a path of value.. Especially those who have made it Past the Crystal Waterfall, and are in my Pond.... You see... my spirit becomes radiant, when I see things such as understanding, Love, and when others see things in others and are willing to under-stand in order to bring out their potential... I am an example in every single way, and the lessons are all in regards to this Ego.. You must find the shadows.... Who knows just what this One can become.... (Schalk a thought of you just occured... More of a spanking type feeling... ) If you get the imagery of Atlas Shrugged Cover.... I am this Gold one... I think this is enough.... This One who speaks through me and tickles my fancy has something more we must use our Baby Smile to fish it out of him... "No, this trick won't work...How on earth are you ever going to explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as first love?" "My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind."

ah, the amazing unforgettable Helen(e) who sunk the II ship

Well, Schalk,

let me refer you to the thread on Gaia IP:

http://groups.gaia.com/ii/conversations/view/430569#431150

which is the first sign that she was here!  In this Gaia thread, you will find reference and link to the Integral Naked forum, and its longest thread ever, "Banish Helen(e) to the 7th Heaven, Please."

Now this may be bit of a leap, but Helen(e) IMO is the real catalyst that brought about the demise of the integral institute.   I am being totally serious here even though this may seem outrageous/ and even though it might not really be clearly 'in demise'....

In early days we had a wonderful forum on the Integral Naked.  Anyone could read the statistics of new people joining up every day to II...usually about 40 people @$10/person/month.   The math is such that every day another $400 dollars more / per month than the previous month... Which to me looked like it was good.  we went from 3000 members to maybe 10,000 members in the time I watched.... and the the dreams of the integral university looked like they might be well in hand, and financed, by this flood of members.  that was $1.2 million to run the organization/year.... and that was only part of it.

Helen(e) came along, queen of all spammers extraordinaire, and in some ways very loveable, though also irritating for most of us. So, first of all, armed with all our green meme outlooks, everything is beautiful and must be included, and in total denial of our blue meme "hey ya gotta have some order around here" and even in worse denial of our red meme "hey we are under threat and need to get together", Helen(e) began spamming every topic.  Many of us would rush to the boards topics in the morning to get to see what had been posted before Helen(e) spammed everything.  "It's already been Helen(e)d" became a common euphemism. And her spam was really tricky.  She actually has done a lot of reading, and sometimes was very kind, and sometimes was very wise.  I suspect as she references herself above, she is schizophrenic, and maybe schizoaffective.  Anyway, all those are just 'psychiatric labels'.  My sense of Helen(e) is that she is mostly in 1P spirit world where none of the ususal progress and discipline of trundling up the memes developments have occurred, or at least they have only partially occurred. She is kind of like an autistic savant...or something..... and maybe she is just a bad speller with bad grammar who has a personality disorder and spams as a lark.  I don't know.

Anyway, whatever Helen(e) is, the great mighty Integral Map was no match for her. The forum was not moderated with any effect and it became really challenging to have an intelligent discussion about anything integral without Helen(e) acting as a grand messer-upper.  It was like a dinner party with some really 'huge guest' that took up all the air time and the coherence of the conversation was reduced to, at first, hushed whispers of how to get the guy to shut up, then loud raucous rallies to get rid of him.... and the host of the party, (IN in this case, and II by default) was unwilling to escort him to the door, bless him, call a taxi if necessary and send them along.

As a result, all of us left the forum, some splintered into the Heartmind forum, a beautiful little forum, that you can google, and some of us left completely, and others ended up on Gaia (what was then Zaadz).  The IN forum went dead, and with it (in my guess anyway that these are directly related) went the 40 new members joining II every day....and actually what looked like the financing for the dreams of II too.

This IL forum here, is the new attempt to revive the IN forum.  The solution to Helen(e) in this forum comes from the Orange meme.  Technically, we can block all of Autonomy's posts, and thus avoid the huge mess that can be created by one person.  And of course, this is very clever and a relief, but it is not an integral solution.

And you know, from what I can tell, all of this really reflects deeper shadows in II.  From what I understand about the rift of II from Don Beck and spiral dynamics, there is a philosophical difference in the two which is really important.  II and Ken are trying to move people up spiral, to 'save the world', and Don Beck and Clare Graves before him recognized that we MUST HAVE HEALTHY FUNCTIONING CORE VALUE MEMES before and in order to evolve, and that these had to remain healthy and functions with every new evolutionary emergence.  In my opinion, the reason that you can have these money mongers on the so-called 'integral' level is because they have not developed and maintained healthy green values, where everything is beautiful in its own way, and we are equal, and we all deserve to be treated with love and respect---and that includes the Helen(e)'s of the world and the people in red and blue.  In effect, the shadows of Integral have created Integral Snobs, IME.  and as a snob, of course, you can make a gazzillion dollars an hours of the stupid schlepps that work for $10 an hour at the local dry-cleaner, and you can justify this by thinking that really those people at the dry-cleaner are somehow equal-but-not-really, and their money can get melded in with everyone else who "brings in the power flow from Wealth Mastery as Tony Robbin's would teach us".    The thing is, until we all develop the kind of compassion that seeks to truly love our neighbours as ourselves, and somehow paradoxically know also how to have conversations in safe places without harming the spammers(bless them) terrorists etc, until we learn truly what social aikido really is....we are going to have these same shadowy issues lurking in the corners.

I think Don Beck is great, and I also think most of II is riddled with shadow.

When I read above that Robb Smith will send you a signed library of Ken's books, I "huuuumpph".  The truth is that if the people in high up Integral really got what this post is about, they would want your address to send you a job offer for Robb's job.  And I don't say this to flatter you, I couldn't care less about this.  I say it because the kind of clarity that you bring to these issues, including the financial ones are truly INTEGRAL...and Ken and Robb could learn more than and thing or two by recognizing that what you offer and what Don Beck offers are ESSENTIAL....not for the flourishing of II(though this is true, though puny in the scheme of everything) but for the flourishing of Integral Understanding and Compassion; for the birthing of a new human to human mode on the earth, and the birthing of a new human to earth community relationship mode as well.

I wish they would really, really get this!  and now I will let it go.... and stop this expose and get off the soapbox.....

I think you are great Schalk, truly I do

Welcome to the world, baby cakes

Jane,
I suspect you remember me from I-Naked. I was always amused by Helen(e). Other than myself she was the only one who had respect for irony and knew how to use it. I liked her perseverance.  I liked her because she was I-Naked's shadow whose presence taught me more about the rank and file of the self-styled "Integral Movement" than all the self-serving hype circulating through what I think is more aptly termed the "Integral Province." The fact that so many on the site needed to deal with her but were ineffective in doing so to me speaks volumes about the entire Integral® Project--actions speak louder than words and I have yet to see how Integral is significantly more than its words. Helen(e) was active. She was effective. The fact that so many I-Naked people thought they needed to do something collectively to keep themselves and the precious community safe from her was the perfect advertisement for the properly hygienic, Euro-American bourgeois mind set of the Integral Province with its check points, border security and "our kind of people" insularity. I think it should be pointed out that in '05 and '06 Helen(e) was not the only non-homogenized member who was singled out for abuse; remember that troubled kid who was a fan of Brother Wayne Teasdale and wrote all his posts in almost indecipherable free verse? I would see him and Helen(e) come along, and read the others crying in alarm against the violation of their orderly constructs and think "Welcome to the world, Baby Cakes, welcome to the world."
Ciao,
SN

baby cakes, indeed....

I whole heartedly agree with you... MCenter was the other one... and there were a few others too... and I used to watch our collective shadow too, and my own on times.... and then my irritation at other's shadow...and that fact that Helen(e) could sink the ship spoke volumes to me, not about her, but about as you put it, the integral province and by implication, me too..... I loved the drama and the way we were just like the wizard in the wizard of oz.... The irony of this was not lost on me at all...... and still isn't.

the whole world of Integral might do well to welcome its baby-cakes self to the world....and I include myself, sheepishly, in the mix.... otherwise, we are just a bunch of deluded goofs, well, with high IQ's maybe, but hey, give me a guy who can carry a canoe any day!

oh, my god,

this EFT is doing me no good whatsoever... rule number #1 specificity gets the best results..... dangit, I didn't mean a guy who can carry a canoe in a humungus trail with a wonky tire on an interstate, looking like Jethro Bodine or some depressed version thereof...... I meant one that can carry it on his big broad muscular shoulders up steep hills and over endless portages.... when will I learn the lessons properly!?-  Alas, my life will probable continue to come up short until I do......

but hey, thanks for keeping a look out for me!
