About Me
I’m a tennis pro living in Denver, CO. Most of my early teaching career was spent teaching people how to play traditional tennis, but in 1978, after a satori experience on the court, I started teaching people how to play tennis “in the zone.”
Since then, I’ve been investigating the zone from the inside as a spiritual practice and from the outside as a objective inquiry, all the while developing a Western approach to teaching this mystical experience to tennis players who are mostly interested in beating the crap out of their opponents.
Along the way I’ve written two books and produced a DVD on the subject. The first book was called “Design B: How to Play Tennis in the Zone.” It came out in 1984 and immediately positioned me as an enemy of the traditional tennis teaching community which firmly believed the zone could neither be taught nor learned. Meanwhile, I was teaching players of every age and every level how to play tennis in the zone – every day. Go figure…
In 2003, my DVD
“Welcome to the Zone” was released to a slightly more accepting audience, and in 2007, I followed the DVD with a companion
E-book of the same title. If you’re interested, both can be found on my website:

Why Integral?
My interest in Integral Theory stems from its thorough examination of peak experiences such as the zone; its AQAL approach to fundamental reality, including the fundamental reality of the human tennis experience; and its direct relevance to performance and human potential.
Integral pretty much covers all the bases I need covered to better introduce tennis players to the nondual reality of playing tennis in the zone.
Education
I'm pretty sure I graduated from the University of Wyoming sometime around 1970. My college life and most of the late 60's are still a bit blurry.
I did my post-graduate work at Aspen State Teacher's College. Great school...
Career
Presently, I teach peak performance in tennis at the Colorado Athletic Club Inverness in Englewood, CO.
I'm also President of Arete Sports, LLC, a group of professional coaches, doctors, scientists and researchers who have combined their knowledge of sports vision, sports psychology, neuroscience, motor behavior and professional coaching to present the athletic world with a completely unique approach to performance "in the zone."
Hobbies and Interests
I read a lot. Journal daily. Get in the zone. Dabble in field theory.
