The Imperfect Child Born In a World of Infinite Possibility

As I watch Maya, my 19 month old try her best to drink right from a regular cup, (actually, I don't know if regular would be the word, it is a cow in the shape of a cup), it dawns on me, how 'imperfect' we are born in terms of what the world normally considers a 'civilized' human being.   To mature into civilazation there are plenty of mannerisms, and social skills my little one will have to develop, but when it comes to the essential characteristics she needs to get there, her possibilities are infinite.   She places no judgement on herself, she has an incredible amount of determination to grow and further master all physical capabilities, as well as mental, and I hope soon, emotional!!   The openness with which we come into the world seems to be very tied with the amount of progress we are expected to make at our highest potiential.

Then another scenario came into mind.   I had the history of humanity rolling past me, from the first moments of self awareness to the first development of the ideas of integral conscioussness with the 'enlightened' man, the Buddha, the Christ.   At times I've felt that our lives move a lot like a video game.    Limited geography, limited concepts, perceptual boundaries, goal and focus in intention.    Here is the video game of the human being, level 1- enter the world new, newborn, new eyes, with a whole spectrum of capabilities to master in the physical, emotional, and spiritual realms, each with its blessings and demons to accept and face.    The goal to be the Super Human, to reach an unthought of level of control over the contours and use of the physical body, to the psychic and kinetic dominance of the mind, and to reach all this in a incredbly balanced manner all while cultvating a deep spiritual journey, the bridging of little self with our Big Self.    Bridging finite existance with the eternal.   Accepting our humanity while embracing our divinity.   The incredible responsibility.

Some deeper part within me though, the one that is always detached from all subjective existance and sees beyond the present impulses of the now, sees a game, that arises and ends, no matter how you play it, or if you even play at all.   And in the end, we all return to the void from which we rose.  As the particles of light fade into the darkness, it is not a sad event, for it is a miracle that they existed at all.

Yes, wow, rich rendering of life through you. You cover a lot of territory in these first two posts. Good stuff to my ears. Your baby/toddler/voracious learner drinks from the sacred and utterly satisfying cow. Welcome.ambo
