However, within the more specific context of this post, my intention was initially to point out that while we, as humans, have been deemed the only species with the capacity for symbolism, the development of our multidimensional complexity, which has possibly resulted in, or at least might correlate with, the increasing development of multiple contexts with development in leaps and bounds on an assortment of levels and along a multiplicity of lines, may have led us, though it most certainly was not our intention, to states of confusion and chaos, misery and disarray.

This is not to say that symbolism and metaphor are not powerful and often effective messengers, rather, as our friend, M. Duchamp pointed out, it is important that we have and/or gain capacity to, for instance, successfully distinguish a symbol from that which it symbolizes.

We, as humans, create our own symbols, individually and collectively. The perception we create, for example, of situations, experiences, observations, others, &c. are our representational metaphors for things, people, &c. themselves; however, the two are not to be confused.

As Duchamp creatively reminded us:
