I love you.

January 26th

...

Ever fresh life and joy well up in my soul

As I sit in Thy Presence with open heart.

Thou didst hold the key of this house in Thy hand;

And I, not knowing this secret

Have wandered, long and afar.

...

O Thou Supreme One!

Fill me with Thyself,

Make Thy Presence felt in my heart.

Kindle within me the true fire of spiritual consecration

That all my impurities and unworthy feelings may be burned to ashes.

amen

When I was living in Belize I made the mistake of crossing the border to visit Guatemala.  Shudder.  Returning in a hurry I stayed at a more expensive hotel populated mostly by former British soldiers.  Immediately I was ushered to the pool with a drink.  Sitting down, the first thing I see?  A lizard just like that.  Motionless on the ledge alongside the pool.  But there's more -- a large snake moving slowly down the same ledge.  It reaches him.  It moves slowly over him.  It moves on.  He doesn't flinch.

What was he thinking?

Just like that cabal of sage-like Komodo Dragons that used to haunt my dreams as a boy.

The minute I heard my first love story,

I started looking for you, not knowing

how blind that was.

Lovers don't finally meet somewhere,

they're in each other all along.

Reptile Brain

chica my dear,

good to see you still around.

I was touched by your posting, I happen to think about reptiles lately also; it happened while I was watching a fine movie-documentary done by Werner Herzog: it's called "The Cave of Forgotten Dreams". I was and still am awe-struck by the pictures and emotions the film transported. Aww Geeezuz.

In the end the camera showed a albino alligator from outside an aquarium, the light bends through the glass and the water and shows a distinct fracture in vision, one part the head and eyes of the gator, the other, strangely bent, the body and legs, with the head like cut off. know what I mean? the cameraman moves a little bit up and down, and the vision changes: head and eyes - body and legs.

It made me think of the reptile brain which is all about instinct and reflex and how much distance the modern human mind seems to have from this. Is distance a good thing? It might be freedom, or alienation, or both. Or all of it. Ah well.

These days I tend to sympathize more with the human capacity of thought and emotion than with reptile efficiacy.

Bye, be well, C.
