Cyber-Stalking

The topic of this post is cyber-stalking.  The source is Wikipedia. Information has been edited and modified specifically towards internet abuse.

Cyber-stalking has been defined as "when the Internet is used to send or post text or images intended to hurt or embarrass another person". Cyber-stalking can be continuing to send messages to someone who has said they want no further contact with the sender, but it may also include, pejorative labels, ganging up on victims by making them the subject of ridicule in forums, and posting false statements as fact aimed at humiliation.

Some stalkers post rumors or gossip and instigate others to dislike and gang up on the target.

Moreover, stalkers can gang up on their victims on electronic pages more efficiently than they do in traditional bullying, since there is no limit to the number of people who can join in, following a bullying statement.

Legislation geared at penalizing cyber-bullying has been introduced in a number of U.S. states.

Cyber stalkers use posts, forums, journals and other online means to present a victim in a false and unflattering light.

Various companies provide cases of cyber-stalking (involving adults) follow the pattern of repeated actions against a target. While motives vary, the target is commonly someone whose life the stalker sees or senses elements lacking in his or her own life.

Anti-bullying charity Act Against Bullying launched the CyberKind campaign in August 2009 to promote positive internet usage.

This author intends to not use what could be construed as stalking tactics or to stalk or have contact with people who have requested this of him from this moment forward. He invites others to consider making a similar decision.

Cyber-Stalking

    Interesting point Stanley,

I have seen cyber stalking in action and it's a serious thing. I think it is wrong. I think kids may be allowed on Facebook at maybe an early age but that their parents should supervise them accordingly. My little cousin was a victim of Cyber Stalking on facebook(It wasn't his fault,It was a disaagreement over a girl) And now unfortunately he can't go on facebook.

I think serious steps should be taken to make sure people are appropiate, moral, and consciouss here at Integral Life. I have found the community here to be fairly cool and don't have many major complaints except I would like to be able to delete or move around some of my blogs. Maybe you could help me with that one Stan. Plus I would like to see a "Help" icon that clearly says hoe to post links and pics. I usually ask the girl for help at the library or my sister but I find Integral Life rather hard to navigate sometimes. Oh Well

Plus Stanley, One of my fave Blogs disappeared! It was about the Buddha and Ananda, his cousin and I mentioned the Mystic formerly known as Bhagwan Shri Rajneesh. I really liked that blog and wondered what happened to it. Maybe you have a clue Stanley!

             Enough for now.

Anyway Keep up the good work Stanley and thanks for your positive support and assitance in the past!

I don't know about the post you mentioned. Many of our best members have been driven off by hate filled cyber-stalkers. Many of them took their posts with them. That's another reason why I don't think things are so cool here the way things are.

    what happened to kindness?

Thank you for the summary on this topic.  I will trust that your edits and adjustments are fair and consistent.

I care deeply about Integral, especially the community here with you all that was started by Ken and company.   I have used this site mostly to hear the official content, but from time to time check in with any blog that looks interesting or even to see the social interaction happening online.  I do not have a lot experience with online communities, but I will say that cyber-stalking or not, I have not enjoyed many of the interactions I see from some of the more regular users.   I would not tolerate this kind of behavior physically in front of me and it saddens me when I see it happen with many self proclaimed integralists.   Perhaps more of those personal discussions should happen in private threads, but at the least, breaking the simple concept of kindness by "continuing to send messages to someone who has said they want no further contact with the sender" shouldn't happen.

I would agree that this post (if not all posts) should stay on topic.  What has been described here regarding cyper-stalking sounds to me to be wrong.  Period.  Might seem traditionalist or amber, but we are called to transcend and include the best of all previous developments.

For those considering challenging someone else's perspective, where do you rank kindness and your perspective being more right or higher or inclusive?   If both can be accomplished great, but if you leave out kindness or value it less, consider what line of development your perspective is coming from.

Nice to hear your voice. I agree that I would not tolerate the kind of behavior I have seen around here in person. In fact, many of these people would not live very long in my neighborhood. I guess they are here online because they are cowards and afraid to act like this in person. I am hoping we can do something about them.

    Dedication

The merit of this blog post is dedicated to Jennifer, Astrid, and all of our fallen sisters and brothers who have been driven from our homeland by stalkers, abusers, and molesters.
