Mystics in the World
Our ego and first three chakras are interested in our personal survival and serving our separate self. Our primary motivations involve serving our own selfish happiness and pleasure, and getting our own way. We call this first tier. Christians might call this the tendency towards sin. At this level we are mostly motivated to deal with our fear and pain. We also want to show all those who have humiliated us that we got the good job, house, car, stuff, lifestyle, acceptance, and mate.
We might consider serving but it would be serving the way we want to; like charging people $150 an hour to talk to them for example. We tend to try to place much of our focus on the past and future. Some questions at this levels might be the following. Where are we from? What do we do? What are our relationships? What are our wounds? These notes are based on some talks by Caroline Myss http://www.myss.com/CMED/media/ .
Our soul and some upper chakras are interested in serving others for their own sake. We call this second tier. Christians might call this a tendency towards holiness. Our soul is very powerful but this power is not known to us. This power comes from our connection to God. Our soul can be a channel for God's grace. A then homeless man was helped by a mystic in the World who touched him, contributed to him, and told him; “God bless you. I will remember you in my prayers. You will get through this.” We could do this.
In order to be able to operate as our soul we need to pray in reverence and humility to a force greater than us. “Lord let me do Your will. Let me be a channel for Your grace. Let me be Your hands in the World. Let me serve the way You want me to serve.” This level is not always rational. We might be called to do things that our mind tells us not to do. Here we tend to place much of our focus on touching the present moment in a way such as the way the sick woman touched the cloak of Jesus. This way is very different from new age or Boomeritius type, ego serving, “spirituality” and our egos might tend to react negatively towards this good news. So be it.
May all beings receive the grace and good news of the Lord.
