Why Look for Our Shadow?

In Reference to:
Three Kinds of Shadow

Ken teaches us that there is evil in the World. If we care we might want to try to make things better. I was surprised and inspired to learn that all three of Ken’s primary Spiritual teachers said that his heart is his primary way of being. It is easy to see Ken’s intellectual brilliance but we might have to think a little to see that Ken’s entire mission seems to be an invitation for all of us to love more and better.

If we want to make things better it will help to see things clearly. If we are constantly projecting our negative and positive shadows on to others we will tend to be less effective.

In my opinion in order for us to recognize our shadows we need not so much to be clever as to be courageous. An ancient Greek playwright wrote that we are humans and therefore nothing human can be foreign to us. If any human is capable to being arrogant, selfish, harmful, and cruel we can be assured that these qualities are inside us to at least some extent in at least potential form. And so it will be no matter how many intellectual or spiritual experiences we have.

Our job is to learn to be able to resonate with all parts of our being; especially the parts we would prefer to deny. As we become more and more courageous in admitting what’s what about our self we should become more and more effective in making our World a better place. Looking at the current condition of our World it looks like there will be a lot for us to practice on.

Invitation to love better and more

Did you really need an invitation from a cult leader in order to reach this incredible conclusion?

Wow!

I had no idea that his teachers agreed to such a thing about him. How wonderful! That makes certain things make so much more sense. When he says, "Hurts More, Bothers You Less." I mainly saw him erring on the "Bothers You Less" side. But now I see that's prolly a counterweight to undermine that pesky elitism and arrogance that emerges as a reaction to the intense pain of an unloving We-space. No wonder.

He's more like me than I thot. And it makes that mission you mentioned make more sense too.

I've been catching myself being aware of but unwilling to express certain Shadow impulses lately and it's making me completely ineffective. Totally! I don't even want to speak about them, much less as them. But act as them, I do! What a conundrum!

I will eventually be courageous enough. Eventually.

Because of what I've been learning from the Archetype talks and Magic, I would alter what that Greek said and say, "we have evolved from single-celled organisms, therefore nothing common to all life forms that we have evolved from can be foreign to us." That's the piece that he didn't have. My problematic energy patterns are so regressive, that I have to go back that far.

I read the other day that a border collie is as intelligent (meaning developmentally and able to recognize things in it's environment) as a 2 year old human child. So, while it could be said that I have to embrace my inner 2 year old, it could also be said that I have to embrace my inner border collie. Much of what is embedded in that pattern is pre-verbal, so when I'm feeling it, it would almost be easier to express it thru barking or growling than typing on a keyboard or talking to the b/f. Ironic.

God help us all.
