When The Mind Won't Shut Up

He draweth out the thread of his verbosity finer

than the staple of his argument.

-- Loves Labours Lost, William Shakespeare

There is something about a certain kind of speech that always irks me.  I associate it with the Green meme, so beloved of cultural creatives as it is.

I am glad I never encountered it in Wilber's writings, and indeed that may be the key to why I grabbed his books off the shelves with such enthusiasm.  So lucid, clean, simple, and direct -- such ordered plans you could be sure they would be useful.

What I thought I was leaving behind, with the Green meme, was the insufferable endless waffle of inconsequential narratives, of circular suppositions, of pointless thrusts, neutered notes, acerbic sweeteners, pompous understatements, and vacuous visions -- in short, of utterly depthless meanings, fantastical certainties, wibbly tremors, and pale tans of ineffectual pigments.  To sum up, rubbish, trash, balderdash -- in present: waffle.

But woe is me!!

The waffle didn't go!  It took a vacation, and returned with reinforcements!!!

How can I cope?  Beloved Integral, propping up Gafni -- To Reinterpretation, and Beyond! -- and Cohen -- Not Only But Also and No Less than -- wafflers extraordinaire!

Well I gave it some time, you know, the humble stance of the layman, the shut up and listen attitude of not speaking out of place, but after, um, 5 years of this, I've had enough.  No, no, another two hours of audio and a new book and several essays won't be it... no longer, enough, the line has been drawn, the train has left the station, I fucking DIED already.  How many more lifetimes of waffle will it take before I get whatever point they are trying to make?  Whatever it is they are pretending to teach?

I don't know.

And frankly my dear, I no longer give a damn.

Sayonara baby.

PS.  I'm sorry, I left that ambiguous.  I don't mean I'm "leaving Integral" (I'm not "inside" Integral so there's nothing to "leave" -- I'm a guy who just liked reading Wilber's books and likes hanging out on the forums).

What I'm saying sayonara to is any teacher who waffles and waffles.  I used to think waffle could appeal as a style to some.  I assumed that underneath all the verbiage there was an actual teaching.

I'm done giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Never Mind the Mind

I did not follow this completely but if you are saying you want to leave us I am saying please don’t. I feel that your presence here has helped slow our slide into the bottom of the slime and muck, that we are turning the corner, and the bright and shining days are right ahead of us. Yes I really do think this. But we need you to help make this a possibility.  Please don’t leave us.

Awww...

Did you express your concerns about partnerships with the likes of Gafni and Cohen with the people upstairs? I'll miss you, Stefano! Best wishes!

to endlessly waffle

must suck. :) bunches. i do it. it's not so bad. sometimes fun.

for short periods. it irks me when the oh so very whatever is re-verbaized continually in the maskery of brand new truth. As if the whole truth is not already here. God knows what anyone's looking for, still. All of it is true. And...

You would be missed, i think. :) I bet you are, anyways.

That would be my suggestion.
