2nd Tier Governance: P. M. Gordon Brown

Many of us have been wondering and discussing amongst ourselves, just what is integral consciousness or second tier, or teal and yellow?  Not what is it in theory, that's easy enough to grasp, but what does it look like out there in the world, or in me?  Where are some examples we can point to?  We don't really know what it looks like, do we, because what we're calling second tier is only now emerging within us and in the world around us.  We can easily see what amber and orange are because we have disidentified from those levels, transcended and included them.  They have become objects in our awareness.  But teal/turquoise must necessarily still be subjective to our awareness.  Second tier consciousness is not so much the water we swim in yet as it is the vapor from which the water is condensing in which we will swim, or else grow lungs and walk upon the land.  So we'll have to watch and see what teal looks like, or better, simply become what it looks like.

We have all been hopefully watching President Obama for signs of what integral might look like in the real/teal world.  I'd like to call your attention to Prime Minister Gordon Brown speaking in a TED Talk video released today, 22 July.  We know what a powerful speaker Barack Obama can be.  Please watch this 18 minute talk by Gordon Brown.  He's every bit as eloquent as Obama, and he certainly sounds like emerging second tier world governance to me.  Or is this only high-level green?   I was moved to tears.  Here's the link

Emerging from green, not quite. . .

Hi Steve,

Gordon Brown may be emerging from green, but i suspect that if he's to do so, some interior work on his part seems to be in order. Here's what makes me suspicious. In the beginning of his Ted remarks, Mr. Brown offered that he was glad to be free of the pressures of Whitehall for a while. And sure enough he got through his remarks without apparent need to resort to his chronic stuttering. To me this means that when the pressure is on he's unsure of himself; as he is perhaps concerned with the possibility of making a statement that will cost him dearly. It may not be fair to do so but to compare him with the typical cool demeanor of Mr. Obama, leaves me wondering about Mr. Brown's unfoldment.

But let's be clear here second-tier is a very high standard for any politician, in part because ambition seems to go with the job, and ambition is often an obscuring factor. As a practical result what might pass for the audacity of a second tier action, can easily cross the line and fall back into the arrogance of first tier.

If we look to the UK for a second tier politician candidate Tony Blair seems to have a bit more of the right stuff. Although appearing as George W. Bush's "pet poodle" did considerable harm to his reputation, meanwhile he's showing great courage in taking on an almost insurmountable problem, untangling the knotty web of Mideast strife.

Warmly,
Charles
